Ok, this is not fbody or LTX related, but I hope someone can answer this anyway.

My mom has a 2001 KIA which is a OBDII vehicle with a OBDII connector undes the dash, just like on fbodys.

I have a 1995 bird which is OBDI but with the OBDII connector, I also have a cable for my car (from akmcables) to tune/log my car.

So, my question is, can I use my OBDII style connector that I use to the bird to connect to my moms car and scan it since it is the same connector? Of course with a OBDII software.

Because she is going to get rid of that piece of shit, and it has a SES light and need to be scanned.

I had a Cornwell scanner that had different "chips" as well as the cables for different manufacturers. I would imagine one of those cheaper universal OBDII scanners should work. Mine had the chips because it had a diagnostics and datastreaming capabilities.

EDIT/

I didn't understand your question. I think it should work as long as you have got the OBDII software. I don't know why it wouldn't, but I'm not the most knowledgable on this subject.

Thats what I was thinking too. I atleast thought, that I had the right software and tried it and I couldnt communicate with the pcm.. Thats why I was wondering.

And also, whats a good software for scanning OBDII? Is there any free?
I think I need iso-9141 or what it is called for this car.
