Hey guys. I am having a little problem and have no idea how it happened and what process to do to fix it.
First off my car was losing brake fluid somewhere and only in the rear half of the resevoir. I tried looking for the source of the leak and couldn't find it. I then had to keep putting brake fluid in. Not too often, it was a slow leak.
Well fastforward a few months. I had to park my car do to smog issues but I still drove it around town. One day my pedal seems quite firm and when I park my ebrake handle goes up about one click and stops. WILL NOT go any farther. I check the fluid and rear half of the resevoir looks a little low. I put my finger in to check exactly where and the fluid is like jello. The front half is still normal. I don't understand. And now the question is how do fix this?
Any help would be appreciated. I just hope I don't need new rear calipers.

u need to flush the entire system. something has gotten in the fluid. i have only seen this happen when peeps try to mix silicone (dot 5) and glycol based fluids tho

Exactly what I was thinking.

what has got into the system is AIR.

I'm surprised it is firm, normally when it congeals, you lose your brakes.

Your leak is where the air is getting in. Find it, fix it, flush it.

When air touches brake fluid it goes black...
I agree with the two previous posts about mixing DOT 5 and glycol based brake fluid

I have seen this happen a few times. It is Usually cause by some one putting Power Steering fluid in the brake master. Most the time lady's. Both fluids are clear so they think they are interchangable ...but they are not and Power Steering fluid Gel's Brake fluid. We had one so bad we had to replace every h=thing and make new lines :(
