Any one here have any experience with this particular cam shaft and if so what was the set up? I'm thinking of building a 383 or 355 in the spring and maybe even a set of Darts to top it all off. Looking for a fun street car with good mid and top end. The car will also have some nitrous on it.

I've got this cam. I've been happy with it so far however this winter I'm replacing it with a custom Lloyd Elliott cam. The 280 makes most of it's power above 5500-6500 rpm so as long as your good with high rpm's you'll be fine. lloyd has a cam with tighter lobes which will work better for my N/A setup. Street driveabilty is fine and PCM's for less did a great job with the tune, good idle. You will want to have ported heads and other supporting mods like LT's, CAI, TB, and so on. As far as head porting goes you might as well check with companies like Elliott Portworks or Advanced Induction. They can do all the head work you could want and set you up with a cam that might perform better for your setup than the XFI280 can. Off the shelf cams are pretty generic so that can be used in a wide variaty of situations, that's why most have more luck with a custom grind. On my setup I had a local shop port my heads and then got the 280XFI. Looking back I would have spent almost the same amout of money for a little better flow numbers, and a better cam for my setup, had I just gone with one of the above mentioned companies the first time. My dyno sheet is posted in the dyno section here, the operator stopped the dyno at 6000 rpm and we didn't notice it was still making power untill the car was already outside. As for the 280 I'll say like most all other off the shelf cams, it will work, but probably not as good as a custom cam. Good luck with your build!

The car will pretty much be exactly like yours far as set up, just an auto. Being as the car is a 93 and I will be relying on a mail order tune, I'm a tad hesitant to try a custom cam mainly due to potential tuning issues. With a off shelf the came, I know it's going to be really close right off the bat as they have seen a 100 different cars with the same cam. I'm looking at picking up a set of LE2s, I have seen a few brand new never installed, so just gotta wait for that kinda deal or ideally going to a set of Darts and having them cleaned up.

I've got the 280xfi and LE2 heads on a 355. I am stilling working through so brake gremlins so I haven't made it to the track or the dyno yet. Should very soon though. It definitively pulls hard up top.
