What could cause a delayed throttle response. I press the gas and about half a second later it reacts.

Most common:

Worn or defective spark plugs
Intake valve deposit (try running seafoam)

Other things that could cause it:

PCV hose air leak
Mass Air flow meter
A bad TPS would or could cause a hesitation or a surge.
02 sensor
EGR
Temp sensor
Dirty Air filter

Lean tip in will cause this. Any codes being thrown? Car running OK otherwise?

less that 1000 miles on oil. just cleaned air filter. new fuel filter. going to seafoam next week. the car's exhaust smells like it's running rich. and sometimes I have an ocassional misfire.

Describe "Smells like it's running rich." Is it causing your eyes to tear up at all??
