I was at the track lastnight getting some baseline numbers for my car b4 I start modding it, and ran into my buddy from the old cars day. He just happens to have a complete 96 LT1 with a spun bearing sitting in his shop. He will sell it to me for a couple hundred bucks. So Im gonna buy it.

Now whats involved in the build and how much is it gonna set me back to do a complete forged 355 bottom end with it.

Then Ill throw on my LE2 H/C LE3 intake and all the supporting mods. And spray the hell out of it next year! It will be nice knowing Ill have a complete stock motor sitting in the garage incase I blow the other one up.

Honestly, if you going forged everything, I'd just do a 383. It'd be a little different if you did stock crank/rods and forged pistons. That would save alot of money, but if you're going to be replacing the whole rotating assembly with forged stuff, might as well add some cubes

Im thinking about that too. For some reason I want a 355 that runs real good.

What could a spun bearing do to the block that makes it unuseable?

if it was a spun main and driver kept on getting it down the road it could have damaged the block, then you have to align bore and hone if it didn't damage it to bad. if you go splayed. it needs to be bored and honed anyways. make sure to use good splayed caps. the cheap ones are hard as hell and may make you use a special chain and gear kit to compesate for the bore and hone.

i would just do the $500 forged piston rebuild kit from summit if you just want a 355. and i just did a forged 383 setup and have about 6k in the build. but i also bought all new headers, exhaust, torque arm, and alot of other none motor items.

All I need is a short block that will handle high RPMs and spray. I have the heads cam intake exhaust suspension etc. oh i also need a rearend and tires.

a good forged bottom end will cost around 2000-3000$ for the crank/rods/pistons
and probably about another 1000$ or so for the machine work to the block (splayed 4 bolt main caps and such)
