Beautiful day almost got ugly.

A friend and I went to the gym early in the morning so we can use whatever equipment, bench or machine we want with out haveing to wait. It can get pretty crowded. Anyway we finish the work out and I get home to do some yard work since it's a beautiful 66 degrees outside. I pull up into my driveway grab my cell, workout towel and close the door. Out of the corner of my eye I see a black object. I turn to see my neibhors pit bull got out of the back yard. I didn't notice the huge hole in the gate. Anyway here I am staring straight in the eyes of a BIG full grown pit bull and he has the look of blood in his eyes. The only weapon I have is my workout towel. Not the best weapon for taking on a pit, I know. This dog was staring at me like I was dinner and slowly walking toward me. Dude I was about to......wow hottie just walked by and she's got big..........oh, where was I? Oh yeah! I was about to poop my pants and looked for something to hit this f*cker with. The best I could do was a rock. And a small one at that. I grabbed the rock and chucked it at him with all I had. MISSED! SHITE!!! Well the rock missed bounced off of the road right over the dogs head. Luckly the dog saw the rock bounce over him and turned around to chase the rock. I ran like a beeyotch to the front door. You ever see in the movies when someone is getting chased by a killer and can't do even the simplest thing like put a key in the ignition and you're yelling at the screen "u dum @#$ jus put it in and he won't kill yo azz!" well that was me. I finally got the key in the door and went inside. The tennants are renting the house from a friend of mine so I was able to call him about what almost happend and he was able to get a hold of the dogs owners and they got the dog and put the him back in the yard. Whew! Tragedy avoided.

Sounds like your a pussy and the dog was probably not going to do shit except kiss/lick you to say hello. If he chased the rock he obviously wasnt looking to attack anything.
Although I do understand that it could have been very intimidating if you dont know the dog.
FACT 1 Pitbulls are the most unlikely dog to bite a human (unless trained to) since they were always breed to be human friendly, humans had to be in the fighting rings with them.
FACT 2 a Pitbull are the most likely dog to defend a human(any human not just the owner) and give up his life doing so.
FACT 3 Pits do not make good gaurd dogs since they are so human friendly, there are way better choices. German Shep, Rot, Dobe, etc....
FACT 4 They are the most stolen dogs since they are so human friendly.
FACT 5. Pits only have a bad name because the fighting history and the low life worthless thugs that train them to be fighters and abuse them.

I know this is easier said than done, but showing instant fear to a dog is never a good idea. Luckily, it doesnt sound like this particular dog meant to do you any harm. The majority of random dog attacks people experience are a result of the persons actions (more specifically, misreading the dog).

Sorry If I sounded like a dick but pits get such a bad rep from the media already, and hucking rocks at a dog... any dog that really didnt do anything is so so wrong IMO.
If you did that to my dog and I saw it, the consequences for you would be worth the jail time I spend. My Pit is my baby and has never once been aggressive to anything. He would just give you a big sloppy kiss in the same circumstance, and you could of killed him doig some stupid shit like that.

Ya know, that's not all that uncommon. People let little lap dogs get away with far more than they do the larger breeds. People think that the little lap dog is being cute and showing affection when he jumps on you after you get home from work or when he just randomly decides to jump into your lap. NOPE!! He's actually establishing dominance. People don't let the large breeds get away with that for obvious reasons, but they equate those same actions from a poodle or chihuahua with human emotions and that's where they go wrong. Then one day, they reach in to pet their little sweet terrier and he bites a chunk outta that ass, then they turn around and blame the dog. WRONG! They let the dog establish dominance all this time by jumping up on the furniture his whole life and basically inviting him to take the dominant position then when they make a move that the dog perceives to be threatening his alpha position, he defends it by chewing on that :asshole: to reestablish his role.

Nah seriously, scared is scared and some people just panic. Not making excuses for how he treated the dog with the rock... but till we were in his shoes staring at that same dog... we will never know what he saw....

im not gonna call you any names for being scared of the dog,,not everybody is comfortable around dogs they dont know,,but i will say that i would of felt a whole lot better about the story if you wouldve said that you threw the rock over his head to make him chase it

LT1Runner, I also didn't quote the above post with the intentions of calling you anything. Most people probably would've felt the same way you did. Can't fault you for that. However, next time you are in a similar situation, try to control your emotions a little better. I have no doubt the dog picked up on the fear you were feeling and a dog that may not be as friendly, may react differently, solely based on that energy you give off.

Pits are sweet loving dogs. We have 2 of them that are a bit over a year old. One is almost 90 pounds the other is 75-80 and wouldnt hurt a flea. They even play with cats, but my 8 yr old golden retriever is the only dog we have that shows aggression in our home. We let them run around without leashes or chains often with no issues. You were most likely going to be licked to death if u had waited around. If the dog would have truely wanted to attack you he would have even if u threw a rock. Pits have bad reps and it sucks!!

Please don't ASSUME that a PITBULL will attack you because he is a pitbull! My pits as lt1 has already said are HUGE one can stand on his hinde legs and is as tall as I am and I am 5'5, they are the most sweetest most loving dogs in the whole world. Throwing a rock at the dog might have actully made things worse for yourself.
