I do it because it's legal, safer than the street, and it's a stress reliever until something breaks.

Are you lumping street racing and drag racing into one.... or are you specifically targeting DRAG RACING AT A TRACK?

I do it cuz its really more that just drag racing. You can go to the track alone or with a group of people and the outcome is the same. You have a blast. It becomes more that just friends but a tight family. The comrodary that is built and poking back and forth is like no other. Every1 is there for the person that breaks or that needs help. All of that is built around what? Seeing how fast you can go in a 1/4 mile. After all that another reason is just the rush that i get when im in the staging lanes then once I hit that burn out box its full tilt and im almost shaking. One of the best feelings.

I have been around drag racing my entire life. Truth be told my dad was street racing stop light to stop light the night I was born to provide food for my family. He did well.
Yes there are many different forms of drag racing! There is bracket racing which is 2 cars at a track and one may be faster then the other. To make it a fair race the slower car gets to leave sooner then the faster car by the difference of the 2. Example if you have a 9 second car vs a 8 second car the 9 second car gets to leave 1 second faster then the 8 second car. First one to the finish without going faster then what they say there car will run. Which in a perfect word and each car was perfect then they would cross the finish line at the exact same time.
Then you have Heads Up racing and that is self explainable. Both cars leave at the same time and the first one to the finish wins.
Then you have street racing and we all know what that is.
There are also different sanctions such as NHRA, IHRA, ORSCA, NMCA, NMRA among others.
The reason I drag race is because it is something that I truly enjoy doing. The people you race with tend to become family. I enjoy the chance to line up against someone and try to out smart, out react and out run them. I always try to do better then I did the last run. Its a challenge that sometimes you can control.

i drag race much for the same reasons as others. I am competative in everything i do. My dad raised me around it as well. Having fast cars is just in my blood so naturally racing them is too. I love working on my car but then sometimes you need to know what you are doing is actually working so drag racing gives that reassurance. i like the friends i have made and the times at the track or on the street however good or bad cant be replaced. Even when you break down... which happens alot, people are there for you! its amazing. I like the mental challenege you get, the opportunity to improve your own times every single pass.
plus i figure there are alot other things i could be doing with my time and money. I could be wasting my life away but instead in an odd way i am networking! i have met people racing that have furthered my career. or even helped me get a job before. i have friends that are now room mates and their families are pretty much my famly all from one random night when either i walk up and introduce myself or if they do.
I like the topic of your paper. whats your major or is this for highschool? just curious. good luck!

Thanks man i like the topic too. I hope everyone else will too. Its amazing how some of my classmates picture drag racing as wat goes on in the movies. I am still not 100% sure wat my major will be.

i have always raced for the competition, and the final product of all your hard work. By that i mean you can work on your car all week and at the end of that week you get to see what all your work gained you in real world numbers. There is nothing better for a drag racer than to see his gains on a timeslip. Plus i have met a lot of great people at the track.

You really should use proper grammar. After all you are asking for input on a term paper, essay, whatever this is, etc.
That being said:
1) I like to win
2) I like to use drag racing as a performance measure for the modifications I do to the vehicle.
3) Its something you can share with other friends and or family who have similar interests.
4) Because theres usually nothing else nearly as appealing to do. (Fri / Sat night street drags). I figure I'd rather spend my time doing something that is challenging and rewarding, rather than sitting on my ass in a bar wasting money and brain cells getting hammered and acting like a retard like most of the rest of the town.

its just like any other sport or activity— the main objective is to win, promoting competition. Additionally, just as in anything else, you are attempting to get better constantly (in this case you can argue your driving skills or bettering your car to do better). The rush you get is more intense and a lot more satisfying than any drug known to man. I suspect that there is a part of all of us that also thoroughly enjoys the attention and flashyness we receive by having a nice car as well.

I have always been competitve. Drag Racing just brought me to a level of fun that i have been enjoying since i was a kid. It gives me a rush knowing that car/truck was built by me and raced by me. Yes the smack talk back and forth heightens the rush but when its all said and done we are all friends......
Now that my son is getting to that age i get to enjoy seeing him go drag racing aswell as any other hobby he may decide to become part of...
