I'm perplexed.

First, let me share two pics of the area in question:

The issue I am having is with that bracket on the cat converter that has the "spear" on it that faces the rear of the car. That spear is supposed to go through the rubber insulator on the bracket that bolts to the PS of the T56. It's a hanger for the cat/exhaust. Well, as you can see, the spear does not line up with the rubber, and when I do make them line up, the bracket does not sit close to flush on the T56. I have both the M6 and A4 versions of that bracket with the rubber on it...the one in the pics is what came with my T56 conversion.

Anyone run into this? What's the deal? I thought maybe the bracket on the car was different on M6 cars, so I had a guy take a pic of his, and it seems to be identical to mine.

Any help appreciated.:hail:

Yeah, I can and might do that.

But I want to know what the deal is. Nothing currently looks bent/damaged. So, I want to find out why I am having this issue.

Call me crazy... but I dont remember the output shaft sticking out like that?

Really? I feel like it's normal...I seem to recall the shaft sticking out of my 4L60E when I pulled it. It has to stick out some for the rubber seal back there to have something to seal against....

Did you just swap that trans in? Imho just bend it to fit and not ask questions but anything can happen to bend it .

Yep, am doing the swap now. Not asking questions goes against my nature!

It does, but the rear seal sticks out that far too. It looks like OP's rear seal might be ripped or something.

(sorry, best pic I could find)

Oh yea, and you don't even need that exhaust hanger. The y-pipe isn't going anywhere.

Now you've got me thinking about that seal. It looked intact, not damaged, and it makes a good seal against the driveshaft yoke. Filled the trans up and it does not leak a drop back there....

What I see in that pic of yours is NOT how the seal on my 4L60E looked, and I figured the auto and manual trannys are going to use the same seal.

mine looks more like spartans pic, it didnt stick past the seal

Yeah, but in that pic, it doesn't come out past the seal because the seal itself has a "hood" that comes way out. The shaft should be extending the same difference from the body of the trans. My seal seems to be of a different style. Perhaps a variation?

After lookng at your seal its got the red ring on it like felpro main seals have, could be aftermarket. I just noticed it was different and that it was sticking past the seal, and mine sat inside that seal. At first i thought the shaft was longer and now see your seal is shorter

It could just be aftermarket. But as long as it doesn't leak I'd say you're fine. FYI, the pic I put up was off of Install University for an LS1. Mine looks the same, but it's the only pic I could find last night. :D

EDIT: Just a thought. Is there a seperate dust boot back there, and maybe that part that sticks out is just the dust boot? Because I remember on an older 93 T56 I had, there was a hole in that part on the bottom.
