Well I took my car this morning to get the headliner reglued, because it was getting bad and I thought I'd get their $40 engine bay detail a try as well. This is what surprised me the most.

Are you referring to the dressing in the engine bay? If you are, it isnt, just a shiny dressing.

yes I was. That stuff collects dirt over time. I would try and wipe as much off as possible now that it is all clean! Then just maintain it over time!

Yeah, I want to try and preserve how it looks. Maybe I just won't open the hood for extended periods of time.

looks good, but $40? Ouch!

there is a place by me that does it for $15.95 plus the cost of a car wash (that starts at $8.95 IIRC)

hell i'd pay $40 for my engine bay to look like that!! i just wonder what exactly their method is, i asked a few places here and they use engine degreaser, but do they power wash it? like, hello opti failure

theres a place in town here that will steam clean the engine bay and make it look that good. it gets all the crap off. not sure how much it costs

I would know if they powerwashed it or not because of a miss or other problem and thats what I was afraid of. I got it back and it ran damn perfect. I had coolant stains on the intake manifold from a pin size hole in a hose and they got that off. I'd say $40 was worth it for how bad mine was before.

If it's not sticky then you should be fine. I've heard there is something they use that's similar to a clear coating. Stay shiny for a good while but eventually burns off. Doesn't discolor when it gets hot though so it's not your normal clear coat paint product.

we used silicone spray, not sticky and held a shine like hell... looked awesome when i would detail vettes and the XLRs we had a Z06 come in with a P1sc and fast 90 when i was done with that car it was so spotless it looked like you could eat off of it and cure any sniffle or sneeze you had, plus i got a $100 tip every time i would detail his car :) but that was the HARDEST $100 i ever worked for lol, that car was a PAIN to detail and make look good took 6 hours of my part time job every 2 weeks.

Edit: who makes that CAI? i like it

If you're referring to mine it's a Lingenfelter CAI with a ceramic Trick Flow elbow.
