Howdy. Car's been running pretty bad lately (chucking and hesitating - sometimes stalling at low RPMs) so I checked my fuel pressure (have a mechanical pressure checker hooked up to car right now) and at idle it shows 20psi, and when I give it gas, it drops pressure. The pump is brand new (was doing this with the last pump as well), and the fuel filter is brand new. Any ideas on what it could be?

did you check the fpr? with the vac line disconnected from the fpr the pressure should be around 40-43psi. Did you replace the rubber lines in the sender when you changed the pump?

Check out the FPR. Unless that pump crapped out very quickly, I would imagine that's the problem.

OMG it was the stupidest problem ever. I had a mechanic do the pump (due to no time on my end) and that is the last time i let a mechanic touch my car. I took the pump out to see if anything is wrong with it, and the fuel feed lines (going from the pump to the motor) werent clamped down on the pump, therfore allowing fuel to pour out, back into the tank hahahah wow..

Wow, good thing you found the problem. Another reason I never let mechanics touch my car.

Same here with me, I do everything I can do myself!

nice, so it was those rubber lines. Those clamps are sorta important. I with ya on never letting a mechanic touch my car. I only know two other people that I would allow to approach my car with any sort of tool in hand. Glad you got it figured out.

Hey, look on the bright side.... At least with gas prices these days the fuel wasnt draining onto the ground, it was going back into your tank :D
And thats another +1 for letting nobody touch my car.... Ever ;)

:jest: When I let a shop do my fuel pump they cut my exhaust down the middle, dropped the tank, and changed it. It took them maybe 3 hours, they sectioned a new piece of exhaust and then charged me for 5-6 hours of labor (by the book) needless to say I was pissed and I'll never go back there.

oh man thats awful....i dont trust anybody but me to work on my vehicles..when you do it , atleast you know what you might have overlooked lol ..there are too many inexperienced mechanics out there that are in a rush..
