yes, bad news. my car is gone. ill still be sticking around this forum because i love the ltx community. we had my car running but it wouldnt idle, and we found more problems and i just ran out of patience and funds to keep the project going. ive thrown thousands upon thousands into the car since i got it...which was almost 2 years ago. about 80% of this time it was in the garage getting something stupid fixed. i loved this car with a passion and devoted any possible funds and time i could into it but i had to let it go. now to the very sad part, i just couldnt stand to know someone else would own or drive my car and with my car being such a damn lemon i couldnt put anyone else through the bullshit soo....my sister was looking at newer mazdas and we ended up trading it in for cash for clunkers. yes i know alot of you will be pissed but i was sad enough to see it go in the first place so dont give me too much shit. ive got alot of time and money into the car and havent gotten much out of it although i do have alot of badass memorys with that car. i do hope to pick up maybe a 2nd gen camaro in a few years once ive settled down somewhere and have a solid job and plan on doing an lt1 swap so im not out of the scene completely im just taking a break and trying to recover a little bit of the money ive blown on the car. just thought id let you guys know, and i know ill regret it but it had to be done sooner or later...for the amount i put into the car i could have 4 of them sitting in my garage. Did they have to DESTROY it for the program (sach for clunkers)?
They put a product called "Engine Killer" in the crankcase and run the car until the motor seizes. It's a shame really. They can eventually part out the remainder of the car but the motor must be deemed inopereable and not repairable for the gov't to pay the deapership their $4500.
I honestly can't believe someone from an enthusuiast site would do that to their car. Nothing against the OP but I have a hard time believing it.

How can you guys give him crap for it? Its proly more than he was going to get for the car. Shit I almost traded mine in and my suv for something newer. Granted I was going to strip the car before I brought it in and I mean strip it. But I decided with school I didnt need a car payment and then I lost my financial aid. Shit My car is for sale for 5000 right now because that is how much I feel it is worth and people are trying to trade me straight up cars worth 1-2k .
So Lt1Noob I feel your loss but I congratulate you on taking advantage of something government attempted to do for us even though I dont agree with the whole program.

If I read it correctly, HE didnt even get the advantage of the C4C... his SISTER did. 2nd of all, you say that he got more than he wouldve gotten if he sold it out right... but lets be honest... New cars are marked up and there is plenty of rom to work even without the C4C rebate, so they prob couda come close without the Bird...

Thats why he should have negotiated and then sayed That price sounds good. I have a c4c to use as well Seriously I have been trying to sell my car for idk how long at 6500 nuttin. went down to 5500 a few bits. Now I have it at 5k nuttin. Dont know man.

I bet he coulda put that car up for sale and sold it for like 3g EASY, then his sis coulda still gone and gotten the MAZDA negotiated down 3 or 4 g with factor rebates and dealer incentives ALONE, then if he was still feeling so giving she woulda had 6 or 7 g down.
Personally I dont care... but its sad to see on an enthusiast board. We are all here, and brought together for a love of LTX powered vehicles.... They are not just "cars" to us, so I think everyone feels a loss when one gets DESTROYED.
Or am I just speaking for myself????

I agree with you , Just I think that it was right what he did considering how much the cars go for. I know I love my car but personally if I got my money from it I could care less what happened to it. Though I know Id like to be the person who killed the motor and not the dealer ship because that thing would have gotten a hell of burnout with that stuff in the motor

thanks, as you can imagine it wasnt a 10 second decision, it took alot of thinking. i wanted to sell it a few times and always ended up saying damnit i love this car too much and ive got so much money into it. and then more things would break and so on and so forth. its not that i didnt want to see someone else enjoying it, it was the simple fact i rarely got to enjoy it because it was down all the time and i didnt want to see anyone else go through this, especially with these cars they're to be driven and enjoyed. but its kind of hard to enjoy the car when it doesnt run or its constantly in the garage etc. like i said, i love f bodys, and the ltx community and im planning either another 4th gen, or a 2nd gen with an ltx swap sometime in a few years. i dont blame you guys for being frustrated but i just want you guys to realize why i did it aswell. ill still be around, and hopefully ill get to attend the ltx shootout this year (even without an ltx...) because ive still wanted to attend one since i got into ltx's. and in a few years i should have a pretty sweet project on the way. ultime plan is a 2nd gen camaro with an ltx and t-56. cam, mild head porting, 12 bolt, and full suspension. nothing crazy but it will get done its just a matter of when. ill miss my car dearly but like i said, sitting down and thinking it all through it really was the best option wether or not people agree with me.

I'm confused here, but I also understand why you did it. You have to realize your car is atleast 12 years old now, and the fact it's a performance car that is driven hard. 12 year old, stock parts are going to break. I understand your frustration though, as both the Camaro's I have owned have sat longer than they have ran.
I REALLY, REALLY hope you stripped the car completely before you took it in. I know that around here it just has to go forward, backwards and stop. Which means you could have completely pulled the interior and ALOT of other stuff and made some cash off of those parts too.
Either way, it sucks you did that and I would never do that. Chances are, you did get more than the car is worth though. I hope your sister gave you te $3,500 she saved though..

i did get my money out of it, and we actually got 4k for it because the dealership had something going we got an extra 500$ it wasnt exactly a charity thing, and yes i have quite a bit from the car, i didnt let them have everything i got what i could off of it.. and there are other things other than just my posts. alot of that is labor. anyways, for example the first day i had it, took it out and 10 minutes later had coolant everywhere, worse things can happen but parts and labor along with other small things like oil change and whatever else resulted in over a grand. if youd like me to snap a pic of the receipt i beleive i still have it, trust me, enough crap went wrong. im sorry i didnt sell it instead but like i stated i tried a few times and we all know how the economy is even with a car like that. i had like no offers and the people who did backed out or never got back to me. also alot of my posts are on ls1tech if you want to check those out. it could be a bit over 11, or 12 grand, its over 10 i know that for sure that was a guesstimate. there was enough i know that. i would have loved to keep it but i have to keep moving on with school and im also planning to ask my current girlfriend to marry me sometime in spring if all goes as planned. if i had kept going i would be in debt.

Hey:
Right off the C4C web page, the Salvage yard have 180 days to dispose/crush the engine and cab/car with vin, and any all parts left of the car. The salvage yard can however sell all parts off the car except the engine and cab. Not the dealer, the dealer has to sell the C4C to a preselected salvage yard for a set price. Only the salvage yard can part out the vehicle under the terms listed above. The dealer would be subject to a fed crime if they sold parts the salvage yard can sell at fair mkt value whatever they can as long as its not the engine or VIN # parts of the cab. The cab may never be driven on the road legally again, or motor used to power another car, that is why they have to certify that the motor is destroyed at the dealership. The dealership make no money on the car, and only get paid for the authorized amount given to the trade and preset salvage price.
I hope this clears up some of the things on this thread that are being presented as fact when they are not. This was not a well thought out program, as it was only supposed to help American manufactured automakers in its 1st proposal, and only get heavy polluting, excessive low mileage vehicles off the road. not really what it ended up doing was it?

Now I would have never put my car through the cash for clunkers BS but the more I have thought about it I can't blame him. The value of the LT1 cars are going down hill fast when you can buy a decent LS1 car for $5000. Would anyone on here given him the $4000+financing for another car? LT1Noob made this decision to not sell it so he wouldn't sell his lemon to someone else and they end up pouring in more money and possibly never get it right. I know if I would have bought the car it would have pissed me off but first off I wouldn't have even paid $4000 for a car that wouldn't even idle!

I know if I would have bought the car it would have pissed me off but first off I wouldn't have even paid $4000 for a car that wouldn't even idle!
im with you here.. lt1noob i hear ya. i could not stand to see someone beat on the car i have worked hard on. i hate the kids you see going to school driving 30,000 dollar cars and beating the piss outa it... if i seen someone do that to my car it would be too much. thats y im not sellin it.. :) but i do recall alot of things going wrong with his car.. sorry man

thank you. and it sucks because im already getting the itch for another lt1...........if this is the case im going to find one, heads, cam, that i will not have to touch and preferably drive before hand. My old one was from maryland and i took the chance of getting it off ebay....yeah. but im sure with all the pissed off people here no one will let me get another lt. Thing is im joining the coast guard once i figure some shit out with a recruiter and once im in before i get sent out for basic/stationed somewhere id like to take out a loan for another toy and first thing that came to mind was an lt1......

wow popo, your rough on him... He did what he felt he needed to do. Just like stuff we do to our car appearance wise. Some people like them some hate them, but in the end its our car and we do what we want with it.
And personally I would NEVER take out a loan to build a motor. If i were going to take out a loan it would be to get something I could daily drive and then save for the motor. Loans for motors isnt a wise choice IMO.

Shit thats not HARD ON HIM at all... he stated that the car was a lemon.... someone else wrote that it wouldnt idle.... he stated he would take out a loan to buy a head/cam car to drive.... I say, why take out a loan to buy a whole nother car, then (in the end we know its true) spend even more money customizing it.... THe bird was nice.... it was hooked up.... if a loan was his only means, then do it to correct the issue....
Hell I took out a loan to build my car.... but then again, I buy my cars out right so whats the difference, a car payments a car payment....
