I have had mine done for a long while now, definately not a hack job! It will only be a hack job if you allow it to be.....
INITIAL COST: for my build
USED SLP LID W/BOOT TO TB 40.00
NEW FROM FILTER 10.00
SCRAP ALUMINUM FOR SHROUD 5.00
LUNCH 15.00
tools involved:
sawzall
flathead screw driver
cut off wheel
there are a few cowl hoods that will allow the use of the complete Ls1 shroud assembly others you will need to mod

yes it will fit under the stock hood. BUT, i cut out part of the upper radiator support, boxed it in and smoothed it out to look factory and leaned the radiator back. i have since cut the entire lower support out and i am going to fab a new one to stand the radiator back up and get a tade moe weight off the nose.

The lid itself will fit under any hood as long as you cut a tray into the core support...also by doing this you will get much more air to the filter..
If you want to use the entire lid/shroud assembly you will need to purchase the GLASSTEK 4"cowl hood, that is the only known hood that will clear without problems.

Mines a 3.5" ASCD hood. I might look into it after I get this thing up and running good. im still working out small bugs.

And yes it fit under a stock hood with minimal rubbing as you can see on the neck of the lid. after i realized it was rubbing I took a torch and heated the spot to bend it down slightly and had no further problems

how did you attach the MAF to the lid?

how did you attach the MAF to the lid?

The lid end is a little bit bigger than the MAF allowing it to slip over and be hose clamped.
