This winter I'm going to be pulling the motor again. I've got a few oil leaks and want to do a few things to the engine bay of the car. SO, while the motor was out I figured it'd be a good time to bump up the power a bit...why not right? haha.

My plan as of now is to take the heads, which already have a 3 angle valve job and are milled, and get them ported by our engine builder. He does great work and said that he'd fully race port them for a great price. However it's not CNC, either way it's a great price. Also, I'm going to replace my stock replacement Federal Mogal lifters with a set of LS7 ones. Now the real question is...will the 503 cam that's in the motor now, when complimented by the heads net the desired 400rwhp I would like.

I haven't seen many threads that have a good listing of dyno recorded power along with a description of what was done to the car. Even the dyno thread is just so tediouos to go through and figure things out when trying to look for 1 specific setup.

The question I guess is, should I keep the 503 and see what it'll make, OR should I get a custom grind which would most likely net what I'd like...

I think the reply you will get from most will be to get a custom grind. I mean you might as well if you are going to have the heads off, the lifters out, etc. The only question then is do you want to spend the money?? Of course you can sell the 503 and recover some of the custom cam cost.

OK, I just talked myself into telling you just get a new cam:D

yea I dont think I've seen a 503 net 400whp in an NA setup but I'm sure it's possible... I have a 306 for sale though :)

That's the problem, a cam, whether it be custom or off the shelf, is going to be around $250. That's a chunk of change when I already have a decent cam in there.

How much do you think I could get for a 503 with, probably have 15k on it when I take it out.

I guess I'm curious about what kind of power the 503 will make with the heads. I haven't really ever seen numbers.
