so i change out all my plugs to the autolite 104s gapped to .035 and i fire it up and i can hear that ticking sound you hear when a plug wire is arking. after looking at all the wires in the dark a see the coil wire is jumping to a hose clamp. ****** so my question is how hard is it to do plug wires? also how do i run them over the valve covers, and do i need to get a upgraded wire even though i have the stock coil and opti?

It's going to be a PITA to run wires OTVC with the S-Trim on there. It may be almost impossible.

You can just move the coil wire a little and it should stop arcing. As far as difficulty it's like anything else on an LT1, its not fun. It's fairly sraightforward but getting to the opti on the DS with the blower in there is a bitch! Ask me how I know...

Oh and yes get upgraded wires when you decide to swap them out. In actuallity they are not that much more expensive than a good set of stock replacements at a parts store.

if the wire is arcing then its bad. they shouldnt ever arc on anything. what brand of wires do you run?

The wire may be bad, it may not. See below. Sometimes a wire can arc to a ground, especially if it is too close to a ground.

Arcing to Grounds
Make sure the spark plug wires are not arcing to any ground plane such as an exhaust manifold, engine bracket, heater hose, etc. Spark plug wires should not be in contact or within 1/2" of any ground plane.

When I replaced my wires on the 95 I had one too close to a header tube, it was arcing to the header but the wire was perfectly fine (brand new). I moved the boot and zip tied it out of the way and car has ran flawlessly since.

I run Accel 300+ Race Wires on the blown car, and just a set of stock replacement Belden's from NAPA on the N2O car.

does the S-trim mount different than my procharger? because with a DO IT YOURSELF kit, I made over the valve cover set up, and it wasnt hard. I found the wire holders that share the valve cover center bolts and just dropped down to each plug.... then again, my motor was out when I wired it up...

Magnacore wires are probably the best that money can buy. Personally I think any decent aftermarket brand will do about the same though. I have MSD wires in my Formula, and have Taylor Spiro Pro in my Z. One other thing you may want to consider is getting heat shield boots for your wires. I did, and they really helped since the close relation from the wires to the headers, but they may help insulate against arcing as well.

Just make sure after you change them you look VERY closely to make sure they don't get burnt.
