There's a lot of Mustangs out there that would lay the smack down on some GM stuff. But, they also start with a pretty severe handicap, and it takes a bunch of money to get to that level. Mod for mod F-Body to Mustang, they will NEVER keep up.

i used to be all about mustangs when i was younger(way younger like pre license) but then my first car was a 84 Z so i was converted..fast forward a little and when i got my 97Z i had a good buddy that was MR MUSTANG and had a 97gt with every last bolt on he could find,,at the time my 97 was bone stock,,so when i first got it he talked all kinds of shit because his gt was "sooped up",,so we finally ran one night and by the 2nd to 3rd gear change i had like 3 cars on him,,needless to say he hasnt wanted to race since:cool:

I love the ignorance. Yes, mod for mod an F-body will outrun a Mustang, but dollar for dollar, the Mustang rules all. The beauty of the Mustang world is that there are so many junkyard upgrades, budget friendly parts, and a huge scene where you can buy used performance parts for dirt cheap. I mean hell, go to the junkyard, get the top end off of a 5.0 explorer, GT40P heads, and the intake is similar to a Cobra, made that up with some good valve springs, decent little cam, and the bolts ons, and you have something with the power to run 12's for less than 2 grand if you play your cards right. I have almost a grand in my exhaust alone on the LT1 car!

While I do play on both sides of the fence, I feel the F-body, especially the 4th gens, are a superior car. The Mustangs are just too easy to go fast with if you carry the knowledge to do so.

A funny story after reading that guy talking trash about that DSMs "half an engine". I used to own a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. I had a header, SC50 turbo, full 3" exhaust, all the typical bolt ons, a Ranger cam, and some other odds and ends. I was running 22psi on a stock shortblock, head, intake, throttle body (48mm throttle body), ignition system, and everything. I raced a 94 Formula with all the bolt ons other than roller rockers. I put a fender on it. The guy was cool about it, we pulled over, talked, shook hands, etc. Later that night, I raced a bolt on 5.0 Mustang with a built auto, stall and 3.90 gears. I put a car on him from a dig, and as I got out of the gas, got on the brakes, he yanks up to me and yells "WHY DONT YOU PUT A V8 IN THAT!?!" and tears off.

It is fun to play both sides of the fence, you come to realize that both sides are exactly the same.
