sbc benefits:
1. A million different parts available for dirt cheap.
cons:
1. You'll have to ditch your EFI from your current LT1 setup
2. $$$$$$$ for a carb, intake, distributor, etc..
3. Hopefully you have a nice cowl hood to clear the carb/filter
LT1 benefits:
1. You already have it installed in there.
2. A good H/C package can get you mid-11's easily
LT1 cons:
1. Not nearly as many parts out there for our cars, but there are enough to get the job done.
cons for both:
1. Not sure what tranny you have, but if it's a 4L60E, you will need a new one. They don't like to handle 400+ hp.
2. You will need a new converter too.
3. You MAY need a new rear end, you'll be playing with fire at that power level.
4. You will need a new driveshaft.
5. You can easily spend $4000 in hard parts just to be able to handle the extra power, tranny, rear, d/s, torque arm, control arms, etc....

The SBC is a Gen 1 engine. Chevy made the Gen 2 for a reason. Every part out there for Gen 1 they make for us. Hell, all their parts other than the heads intake and cam will swap. And a healthy head cam package is all you need to meet your goals.
