So I have a set of 1.6 roller rockers I was going to install, but I found a REALLY good deal on a set of 1.7 roller rockers - will these fit under the stock valve covers?
I was going to be putting in a CC503 and Crane Valve Springs too.
I dont think the 1.7's will fit at all. You would eventually cut through the top of the VC's to get enough clearance and then whats the point in even running the VC's with a big hole in the top? :/

with canton tall valve covers they should fit, but not under stock ones. will you have enough piston to valve clearance?

yup thats a no go on stock covers... a friend of mine put them on, and slowly tightened the covers down with the car running to clearance them...:shiner: :nono: jsut stick with 1.6's, you wont feel that much of a diff...

So now it's 2 against 2 - two people on LS1Tech say they will fit if you trim the insides.

I just installed Scorpion 1.7/1.65s on my son's stock 96 LT1 Vette and they fit the stock covers without any modifications at all.
Of course, Vette covers may be different for other models, internally.

I wouldnt trust anything 95% of LS1techers had to say man, seriously, they are almost all pretty much ricers who bought F-bodies.
I hate having to go over there for info.
but for my contribution, I have 1.65 RR and I have tall aluminum covers, and I had to grind a little inside to add some clearance

most of them are parrots and just repeat what they hear. the triming they are refuring to is probably the 3 supports that need to be flattened out to get the comp pro mag type rockers to fit. as far as hight i would guess they would be very close to hitting the covers. the stockers are pretty damn short and with the 1.7s and a bigger cam i doubt they will work.

On my 96Vette running a 388, I had to use 1/4" taller valve covers because my heads had longer valve stems and a taller spring installed height.
Problem was not with the rocker arms themselves, but with the poly locks. It was the height of the poly locks that prevented the covers from seating on the heads.
However, on my son's 96 LT1, using Dart heads, the same poly locks cleared the covers and they dropped right in place. Remember, though, that the 96 Vette covers don't have the same interior webbing as the covers shown on Golen's website. I didn't have to use thicker valve cover gaskets either. Just the stockers.
Also, your lifter preload setting plays into this clearance thing too. I use 3/4 turn from Zero lash, but less preload would make the poly lock sit higher and may well cause interference with the underside of the cover.
So I guess that's why you're seeing differing views on when they'll fit and when they won't.
