View Full Version : SVT Vert Mustang -vs- the Z...
Pullin' out of Hooters yesterday, pulled to the light to make a left and head it back to the house; and the car in front, sitting on the wholeshot turns out to be this SVT Mustang convertible. Nice lookin' ride.. tops down; Dude's stylin'...
Light goes green and he's clearly a manual... gets around the corner and slams it... I roll up to slack and he bails... leaving me in a tight spot, trying to bleed off the momentum and to get over into the next lane... but he eventually rolls left to give me the lane and we just sidle down to the next light.
As luck would have it, we both end up at the whole; the light changes and I throttle up to test the waters... he returns the throttle and it's on...
He slams the hammer first; pulled slightly, but from there, the Yank slams us to four grand and we rolled up his gain immediately and continued to do so until he shifted to second at which time we snatched a car and change on him; he ran second out for a few seconds, saw that he was getting walked and got out of it...
Nice little run... All N/A; complete and total domination and that's always great.
Dude was smilin', I was smilin' and that was that... good stuff.

Thanks fellas... No, I don't know what year it was... Looked 00-01ish... and I don't think it was the full boat... didn't hear a SC and his pull wasn't that of the big dog. By all indications the SVT was a trim package; he definitely had exhaust and probably the obligatory bolt ons, CAI, etc... but much stonger than a GT...
I was afraid, at first, that he was runnin' the blower, as I had thought about twisting the bottle when I left Hooters, but decided against it; if for no other reason than it was hotter than balls and I just wanted to get goin'... as soon as I saw him of course, I regretted that. But the Z Saints were kind and it was just a good mutual N/A run.

Only the 03-04s were supercharged.
Although they're N/A, the 99/01 SVTs (Cobras) were quite a bit more then a trim package. The major performance differnce between the GT and the Cobra was an aluminum blocked 4v 4.6 in the Cobra making 320 hp, compared to iron block 2v in the GTs making 260.
With (all) the right mods the N/A cars can hit an an 11 at around 114. Although the average CAI and exhaust car is probably going to run a mid 13:(
On a lot of the Mustang forums, most of the Cobra owners think that lt1s are junk and run mid 14s if thier lucky:face_shocked: I'm quick to point out that my wifes Camraro put down 292/321 and ran 13.1's @ 107 with only a CAI, exhaust, and an EWP. Most will humble themselves, but theres always the one tool bag that calls B.S.............
Now that the LT1 has a few more mods, Ive been itching to run a mildly modded 03-04 Cobra with it (like a pulley, CAI and exhaust). But most of them around here have atleast a ported blower (round 500 rwhp) or a twin screw (600+ rwhp).

Oh Thanks... good info...
Yeah man, I've noticed that some of those guys can be real blowhards... but most are pretty cool. And why wouldn't they be? Those blowers are hard on the Z-Ego... I'm just now getting where we can tangle with the stock Rousche guys... which to be honest, is kinda cool.
But you can't blame 'em for all that smack talk... If I ever run across an extra 6 grand... it's going to be all over but the cryin'... I'll have one bolted up before you can say "What was THAT?" At which time there will be no livin' with me...:)
Until then, we'll just have to scrap it out with the happy sauce.
I do have a set of ported LT-4 heads which will boost the compression a fair bit and they flow close to 290@600... Sadly they're just sitting here, waiting...
We'd hoped that this summer that we would pick up another intake and send it off to LE to be modified and mated up to the heads... At the same time we were going to pull the engine and stroke her... plus notch the cam up a bit to accomodate the better flowing heads. Which I figured would run around 25-3000; but we used that to rebuild the drivetrain instead...
I expect that the new heads, and the juice will put us will produce much weeping an gnashing of many pony teeth...
