Ok well I work in Martinsburg, WV and saw a red LT1/SS the other day sitting at a car lot down here. It was red, hardtop just wondering how rare of a car it was or even if it was a real one. Is there any way to tell that it is real? I plan on stopping tonight and taking a few picture of it and posting them up. One thing i was wondering is if its really an ss or even a Z28 would the hardtop roof be painted the same color as the car?

Well, if it is a '96 like mine they are actually badged on the center console with Z28/SS and the car no. very small below it...97's the only way would be to open the drivers door and look for the SLP build stickers. They did not get the car no. badges...But I do think you can get these badges now on Ebay but I know that Ed @ SLP wants verification for having the stickers remade for you...from your VIN.

2,410 1996 SS's made.

I'd guess around 600 were hardtops.

Red was a popular color so that won't do anything for ya, but I'd feel comfortable saying there were less than 300 Red Hardtop 1996 Camaro SS's made.

on the radiator support and the door jamb has an slp build sticker that lists what slp options it came with.

as far as the roof paint i don't think there was any rule as to what got what. mine is white with a black hardtop and black mirrors. i have seen a handfull like it but more has the matching top/body paint.

Ha..good point on the rad. cover. I've had mine off for so long I forgot it was even there.

the monochromatic roof option was a factory option, not a SLP option and (in most cases, I believe) is slightly more rare than the standard black mirrors/top on Z28s.
