View Full Version : Driver side power window motor died!

Every since I got my '94 T/A, the driver side window has always been a little sketchy. I'd always have to "guide" the window slightly or help it up the last inch or so. Needless to say, after sitting for a year I was able to get it rolled down a little less than half way before it decided not to function anymore.
I have a few questions:
Do these fit all 93-02 power window Fbodies?
Does anyone have a part number? update, according to shbox.com it is 88960088 (same for RH & LF) http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor18.html
I'd like to pick up some guides and the regulator from a part out if I can. If not, looks like I am buying new!

I would by new anyway. This is a common problem with our cars. You have a 50/50 chance of having a used part crap out on you and risk going through the BS of doing the work all over again. I went through two used regulators in 6 weeks. I was a little frustrated, but went and had a brand new unit installed. That was almost 6 MO ago and it works like champ. Its up to you but IMHO I would save time and money, and do it right the first time.
power window regulator (93-02), RH = 10305685
power window regulator (93-02), LH = 10305686

It'd be cool just to have a manual window on the drivers side and a power window for the passenger side. Then you'd just have to worry about the one, less important window dying.

The luxury of power windows is really nice, but I hate them. I was going to do the mod to get them moving faster, but there is no possible way of jamming another wire into the loom.
Part of me sort of wishes I could convert to manual windows, not sure how much of a headache that would be though. If possible I want to override the window switch and put switches in the center console and delete the panels in the doors since they are $35 and <$110...

Yeah I'd like to convert the drivers side to manual if the process is somewhat straightforward/inexpensive.. Any info on that?
Aren't they lighter weight as well?
I like having the passenger side power just so I don't have to reach over there while driving if I want some air.

So I looked up "manual window conversion" and they're ALL manual-to-power. I want a power-to-manual.. that would be way more impressive. :disagree:

as manual windows weigh less, i personally would not give up power windows for such a small weight loss, especially on a daily driven car.

I would take the manual windows also. Its just one less thing to break. The power windows on our cars suck.

That's what I'm sayin'. I don't care if the manual window weighed more! It's just convenient.. :)

I had my driverside motor go out. that was a real pain in the a** to change. had to drill out the rivets and then try to get my hand in the door to hold the new motor in place and try to hold the bolts in place and put the nuts on

Just an update... I got the new regulator, took the door panel off as per shbox.com's specs, peeled the plastic off, and realized there's rivets in my way.
So, I decided to do a ceta mod and start unbuttoning my motor to change my thoughts but I will need to finish up the regulator install swap eventually.
My problem is that it's stuck in a down position, about 75% of the way down. I'm afraid I will kill the glass drilling out rivets and etc. I hate dealing with door panels.

If the window is down, you should be able to turn the motor to get it up. once you get the window all the way up then its easy from there. take the speaker out it gives you alot more room to get your hand up. if you push the window from the bottom it will turn the motor.

i did mine last year, found the job to be pretty easy...probably because of the small hands :)
taking the speaker out really helped, only thing i forgot to do was put the plastic back on...oh well

I have hands like Andre the Giant so it sucks to do most things to the T/A. Oh well! Ill be taking another shot at it soon,

Update: I replaced the motor. It works so I'm happy. I wish my hands could say the same.

It's a lot easier once you've got the rivets out. I highly recommend buying a lifetime warranty one if you plan on having your car for more than a year or two. I've done 3 or 4 power window swaps in my 5-6 years working on LTx car's. It's realtively easy to do once you've got your first one out of the way. Shoebox has a great walk through (as posted earlier) which was published in GMHTP.

I changed mine just because they were slow! Turns out my driver's side had already been changed, so it was even easier.
I'm not sure why a lot of people think it's such a PITA, I thought it was pretty easy. Just time consuming.
I got both my motors from O'Reilly. They were $102 for both, and they're NEW with LIFETIME warranty. I'll never have to pay for them again.

I just checked 2 days ago when I was draining the oil out of my Z71. They're $45 for a remanufactured with a lifetime warranty.

When I bought mine (only like a month ago) they Remanufactured did NOT have a lifetime warranty (from O'reilly). I usually get all my parts from Carquest (because I get a good discount), but the price and warranty were better through O'Reilly.
