Hawaiian Lei Rant [Archive]

Seems like half the cars out on the road have Hawaiian leis, beads, or some other distracting dangly thing hanging from their rear view mirror.

I understand wanting to make your car look unique, but I don't see how putting a neon pink flower necklace from a 25 cent bin makes your v6 mustang (most of the cars I notice them on) look any better. I'm not even sure where the hell you can get a lei at in the middle of Oklahoma (sounds dirty).

So are any of you guilty of dangling useless objects or know anyone that is? If so, why? Are you from Hawaii? Do you think it looks pretty? Or do you just like dividing your windshield with something bright and waving?

I would imagine it's a magnet for cops to tell if a teenager is driving as well.

I had one in my 94V6 Camaro for a little bit. It was a gift from a friend and I would have felt like an ass taking it out.

Once it stopped smelling good, I had a reason to take it out though. And it really just got in the way.

Does a visor count? (you know... a baseball hat with a bald spot). Only some times though... not a permanent decoration.

My mom has a small crystal angel dangling there... it just bounces around off the windsheild. Actually broke the wings off now... but she leaves it. If I drive, I flip it over the front of the mirror out of the way. It's annoying as crap.

Yeah, Leis once were a sign of a cute highschool girl driving (when I was in HS)... now I see everyone with them.

I HATE THEM. Sometimes I'll be drivin' along and notice an attractive V6 Camaro and then.. LEI!!!! It's awful. I want to punch the drivers in the face. I've even seen it on V8's when a stupid girl is driving it. Grrr.

They're dangerous too! Block your view of shit coming at you from the right. And yeah... if I were a cop I'd pull them over all the time.. then proceed to punch them in the face.

They're always cheap plastic ones anyways. I've no idea where they come from.

I see shit dangling from cars mirrors all the time and hate it. I despise anything hanging from my mirror. I let my friend slide because he has a G13 F-Body Gathering name badge hanging from his though!

I had fuzzy dice for awhile.

I think the nostalgia of fuzzy dice kinda overrules the danger they may inadvertently cause. :P

i let my g/f drive my z28 once in a while. so when she took it, my buddy came by and picked me up and we went driving. i see my g/f with MY CAR with that pink lei on the mirror. she said she wanted to make it look girly

That's just terrible. I guess that's what they're trying to do.. the girls anyhow--trying to make it look "girly". I dunno what the guys' excuse is..

If my significant other did that.. I'd bitchslap them (that means YOU Sabaktes!!) ;)

I had fuzzy dice for a little while. Mainly because we had this "club" going on in high school called the "Fuzzy Dice Gang". Rofl, consisted of my corolla, friend's crown vic, a neon, and a few other cars. We'd all park next to each other when we went to mucho's after an event at school. Soon as I graduated though, dice went in the can. I was working on this one customer's civic that had lei's, necklaces, pendants, and a scented "leatherman" air freshener. Chick also had a huge zip-lock baggie that was full of lucky charms marsh mellows on the dash. We've been laughing about that car for a long time now.

i had a black and white set of dice, then i put my tassle on it... i dont care what they say i liked my tassle on my mirror. and in fact this thread made me want to go buy some more fuzzy dice lol

And, I think its a status thing. Like I can afford to go all the way to Hawaii and get one of these stupid things, then put it in my car to make you jealous. But when people who see it think you are gay, and really dont care where it is you have been.... Then you just lose.

Combined with the amount of people on this forum that claim people with Leis need to be "punched in the face" or "hit" (Including myself), having one from now on could be a dangerous prospect...

Tassels are okay, they're not obnoxious and they actually have a meaning to them.

Most people with leis hanging on their rear view haven't been to Hawaii. In fact, in Hawaii you get real leis--not plastic ones! Real ones won't last too long in a car...

Fat girls with leis doesn't seem to be too much of a trend here.. just stupid girls.

I never even noticed all of the Lei's before this thread.... It is freaking crazy how many girls drive around with them on their mirrors....

FWIW - There was a neon at the camp site next to our's this past weekend that had one. And she was, well let's just say a bigger girl...
