View Full Version : 8.957 @ 151.6 so there is a new record in town

I just got home from Byron IL and I met a few new people there. It's always nice putting a face with a screen name :hmm:
But the point of the thread is I just went 8.957 @ 151.6
60' 1.349
330 3.738
1/8 5.742
mph 122.46
1000' 7.478
1/4 8.957
mph 151.60
Heres the slips of the day
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l211/jakesz28/62809.jpg
The last pass is on the left which was leaving on the plate, fogger on in 0.1 seconds. The center one was with the same set up but had traction problems from the ricers going thru the water box. The one on the right was the first pass leaving on the plate with the fogger coming on in 0.6 seconds. I added 1 degree of timing per pass and this is the same jet combo I had at the shootout.

DAMN JAKE! what kind of power is it doing on the jug?
jakesz28
06-28-2009, 10:58 PM
I'm running a .028n/.022f (@ 4.5 PSI) in the fogger and a .055n/.048f (@ 4 PSI) in the plate. The next time out I'm going to put a set .030 jets on the nitrous side of the fogger and leave the fuel pressure and jet the same. If the plugs still have a little color after that I'm going to either put a .060n jet or a .042 jet in the plate.
Haven't had it on the dyno. I would like to get some numbers but haven't felt like spending the money to make some pulls. I think this cam like the bottle.

Thanks. I must say it felt good. Now that I'm leaving on everything that I have I need to make some adjustments and get the sixty foot down in the 1.2x range. With the .6 second delay it left real soft and smooth. On the 8.957 pass it hit the converter better but spun a little and the front end only lifted about 6-8 inches.

I'm running a hoosier quick time pro. 28X14.5's I may try a 28x10.5W with a stiff side wall if I can find one. On the third pass the car left decent but the sixty foot isn't right. As far as the suspension goes I haven't made any adjusts to it. I put it together with the starting points that Eric from midwest chassis gave me. I called him later trying to see what I need to adjust to make an improvement in the short time. I will be cleaning up the AFR a little and the only other thing I want to do is work on dialing in the suspension.
I still can't get over the fact that I gave it everything right at the line. There was a pretty good cross wind that day to. I think the news said 25-30mph winds.

Thanks Tony, I know you were going to be going for it. Between you, Tanner, OutlawZ, and Joey the LT1 competition is going strong. I'm just fortunate that this combo is working and coming along as quickly as it has. I'm glad I followed some of the f-body cars and I made some decent choices in the parts I choose. It's not a high dollar car compared to some of them out there, but the sbc's have been running these times for a while. Now I'm wondering if I start practicing the tree if I can get this thing to do some 8.50 index racing next year.
Holy CRAP! Whatta MONSTA!
Congrats on being at the tip of the LT-1 spear.

I'm running a brodix -10 head. They are a converted sbc head. But what most people don't know is brodix will cast there heads for the LT1. It is on a special order deal with about a 4 week wait. The track 1 heads are the shit if you want to stay with a 23* head.

Mike--what rpm did you go through the traps at, or was it a blur for you? I just want to know if it has any more top end in it with the gearing you have in it.
jakesz28
07-01-2009, 09:01 PM
I don't know for sure about the rpm but it should be no problem to trap 160 or so. I can always raise the rev limiter a little if I had to. I think it's set at about 8200 right now.
AChotrod
07-01-2009, 09:07 PM
LOL! 8200??? Thats alot of rpm
jakesz28
07-01-2009, 09:40 PM
I try to shift about 7500-7800 but I felt the nitrous shut off just as a shifted Sunday on the 9.10 pass. The window switch is set for 3200-8000rpm.
Cam is 268* int 280* exhaust.

Hey brotha I never got to congratulate you other than on yellowbullet.... You're hauling bro man...
the bad news is I'm going to the track tommorrow and i'm pulling the pin on this grenade to try and take you down... I've got some nasty numbered jets and some -10 and -11 plugs to try.... I ran a 6.0 1/8th a few weeks ago on a pedaled pass that accidentally turned the unit off and then back on accidentally.... I figure that's gotta be worth .15 in the 1/8th.... Then I just need to figure out where i'm gonna get one more tenth in the 1/8th. My car backhalfs pretty good so we'll see what happens...
DA tommorrow is supposed to be 800' at sacramento and about 65 degrees around 9pm... we can run till 10.... I hope to god to be the 2nd in the 8's. All my wheelstands caused me to re-address my setup.... :D

Yup I got voluntold to go on a TDY to afganistan which messed up my plans for the shootout and put my racing plans back for awhile. we had to test out the wheelie bars to make sure our wheelstand problems were gone which we did. Car picked up quite a bit of MPH as well after a battery swap. I went 143.6 on just a 150 shot.... The last month and a half I couldn't get my engine builder, tuner, and crew all in the same place to make BIG passes. But now tommorrow we got the entire "Team Outlaw" out BBQ'n and racing with all our wives/kids and friends there to support....

You’re going to need the biggest jets in your arsenal to take me down.
Actually I hope you do it. We need to get some new records out there for the other LTxer's to see the potential that's left in this motor. Just remember I was the first, even thou some may had laughed at me 2 years ago when I started this build and I said I was going for the record.

check out my other post for the story.... only got to make 1 pass on a full tilt hit and had to shut down for ignition related issues that we chased all night...
sucks too cause the car went 1.39 60' leaving on only a 150 shot and bringing another 150 shot in 1.0 into the run.... as soon as the other stage came on ignition broke up bad..... i got a cap and rotor out of phase i believe...it came loose and we couldn't figure out where exactly the right position was...

I bet I get flamed for this. Need to wash the dirt off the car and clean up after the critters. I miss the track and it's time to spend the money I don't have.

Ellis is still working on his. At least he is working on it. Mine has just been sitting.
I wanted to pull some weight out and make room to work on it. So I pulled the windshield and cut 100% of the cowl off. It will go straight up from the firewall to the windshield.
There are old threads on my old set up and on some of the new upgrades.

Still currently have a carb. Had a fogger and plate. But only need the two direct ports now. I should sell that plate. Not sure I need three kits.

What Is the weight on your car? I'm running the full cromoly race kit front end from Midwest chassis and there fab 9 with strange brakes and whole 9 yards and shaved close to 400 lbs off the car this past winter. ..
I'm not the only one hoping you can make it to outlaw this year ... It would we great to see some guys show up

Stock front suspension other then Afco shocks and PA K member. Motor plate. Midwest fabbed 9" in the back. Stock brakes all the way around and it was at 3200 last time on the track.
