how much does TunerCAT end up costing once you have everything you need, minus the laptop.

Also, you can read SES codes with it right? I'm throwing a code, but it goes on and off. My car has a OBD2 plug, but I'm sure its OBD1. (production 05/95)

I can't find anybody that can scan my code for me. Dealership wants like 80 bucks just to scan it and perform their "diagnostics"

If any of them have a scanner that will scan an obd1 GM, they CAN scan your car. They just dont know how.

All they need to do is use a set of jumper wirs from thier obd1 scanner connector to your OBD2 port:

I could be wrong but I don't think CATS Tuner reads DTC codes. You can use something like TTS Datamaster or or a handheld scanner.

You could jumper the pins on the ALDL port and retrieve your codes yourself. The SES light will flash to indicate the code or codes. Code 12 would be 1 flash followed by a pause followed by 2 flashes etc. Write them all down and see which ones you have.

where can i find that OBD1 tool? I went to the Advance Auto here in town and all they had was one that looked like it but the pins on it were totally different..

There is a freeware program called freescan I believe, and I think it will read codes. I will check and see later today. Also a program called datamaster, may also, its been awhile.

Free scan is the best bet... with a cable for the OBD2 plug/OBD1 PCM with the program it will end up costing around $120 you have to buy the $70 program then a $20 definition code, then a $59 cable (ALDLcables is where i got mine) comes with a TON of freeware on it and the stuff you need to install your cable.
