What are you goals for the car power wise? Or do you just want an LS1 to say you have one?

Well my car will most likely NEVER see any type of track!!! But I want a nasty street motor with about 400 horses 400 trq!! I was thinking ls because 1. its newer technology with a lot more choices of parts and different things. And from what I see its alot easier to get it to that level with an ls. Keep in mind that before I got my LT1 I could bearley change my oil. Now I can do alot more from all the problems I done had with it. And pls give me a break with all the upkeep mellow drama, I babie this car its never seen anything past 3800 rpm ( But im not the original owner ) and I maintain it really well. Plus I know its easyier to do plug changes and little stuff like that on a ls.... Not to mention Im in the middle of a head gasket change!!!! But what I wanted to know was what I would need to put an ls in my 95z........ Anyone????

why would you want a ls1 with 400 hp when you baby the car and dont take it past 3800 rpm. if your trying to make that kind of power below 3800rpm you can do it easier with the lt1. im confused:confused:

I would just sale the LT1 car and buy an LS1 car, you will have more in the swap than the car is worth.
LS1 cars are in the $4k+ range, I got way more than that in my swap...and I used stock gauges, which you will not be able to do.....

Just build the LTX you can make that power no prob with the right parts!! Not so sure youll get that tq unless you build a stroker motor

From what I've seen on his site he gives you everything you need to get to hp range you're looking for. But as already suggested if you want an LS1 then sell your car and just buy an LS1 Camaro. Lot less headaches.

IMO, I think you need to work with the car you have. If your goals are easily within reach and can be done, there is no need to sell and buy another car because it has an LS1 in it. Chance's are finding a cheap LS car will mean it will have alot of miles, Wear and tear Driveline/Exterior/Interior. And on top of that you will have to still invest money into to reach your goal. I made the mistake of selling my Mint condition 95 z28 with no flaws and wish I had it back. I ended up spending the same amount of money later which is my car now, and wish it was as nice as my 95 was. Just food for thought.

Im having the same problem that you are.. Not sure that it is worth doing the swap.I got a 97 SS that was my buddys when we were in high school. well long story short the car had 421 stroker with 300 direct port on it and some one stoled this car.. and it went missing for 5 years. after he passes in february the car showed up at a impound. his dad call me and ask did i want the car and I said yes. He just gave it to me.. now that you know the story, im starting with just a factory harness. from what I gather new harness or re worked from speartech. around 600 buck. motor and computer along with a ls1 t56. it costs the same to convert the lt1 t56 from what I have found. new k-member at that point just buy the tubular one 450ish. I would est. around 5 to 6 grand..Its a hard choice. My ls2 gto has just trick flow 225 heads healthy cam LT good tune and all the other boltons makes 498.6 rwhp N/a.... hey just on heads and cam that strong. so im in the same boat. but having a stroke lt1 is sounding pretty good:hmm:

I bought a stock LS1 engine/harness complete plus a built A4, R&P/steering knuckle, K-member, and a used PT4400 for $3500.
headers and Y pipe at cost, VIN to tune it, trans cooler, throttle cable.

Now I have a FAST used, and NW new on there.

So I have over $4k in it....and I could be alot quicker with that same $4k, or have bought an LS1 car for the same money and less time.

And do not forget you will need gauges, the 97s are the only one that work without much work.

I would get a reliable set up that is not real radical and get the LS1 PCM set up for the LT1 from eficonnection and let it eat!!

its not cheap but would solve some issues that plague the LT1 plus you have way better tuning software and lets not forget if you have a built LT1 you can spin it over 7k if you need to.....

If i read it right. 550 to do away with opti. and 550 for upgraded t body. no so bad. I fell a big Lt1 coming as soon as dart releases the new block.

dont forget the wiring harness and PCM plus the 8 coils and new wires.....
that TB is not needed unless you want the DBW set up.

my LS1 swap...
LS1 35k miles and T56 with new clutch out of a 35th LE SS- $4200 after tax
re worked stock harness that came with my motor- $275
cam swap and oil pump to break 400 RWHP- $850
99 LS1 vette filter/pressure regulator- $65 (RIP OFF!)
8ft of 3/8" EFI hose and clamps- $35
5 ft of 3/16 EFI hose- $15
racetronix fuel pump hotwire kit- $220
PA racing tubular K member- $389 shipped
UMI lower and upper control arms- $589
still having a pain in the ass with small things i know im gonna have to change to be able to read my gauges... who knows how much more $$$ im gonna have to drop, FML! i thought this would be cheaper than finishing my 396 by about $1,500... but HELLLLLLL NO its cost about 1k more!!! i want to cry everytime i think about it :(

keep a LT1 if you have a LT1, buy a LS1 CAR if you want a LS1 this swap sucks major dick

I hated my 00 LS1 formula and I bought it brand new. Although it was faster than My first LTx with simalar mods, my 96 WS6 was faster than both with less mods. Go figure! LTX FTW!!!!

Holly shit! That is way more then I was trying to spend and a lot more work then I was trying to do!!! But I get it.. I didnt want an ls1 just to say I have an ls1 but my lt has had the same prroblem since I had it. Just a frustrated I guess.... But I know now If I want an ls motor then buy als car!!!! Thanks all!!! Bu8t some one tell me can I get those numbers or something close with the le1 package??? Oh one more thing how hard do u think it would be to get rid of the opti and install that thing from the website herren pro. listed??? I would love that too!!!

I personally would go with an AI H/C package and not wonder if you were going to hit the 400+ mark, once you upgrade the LE packages to the AI standard they are very close to the same price.
And having been down the cheap route...this always cost more than you think. Do it right the first time. if it takes a few more paychecks to get there then wait.

If I can help in any other way let me know.
