Ok here we go, I am not the best tuner we can get that out of the way lol. :jest:

I am getting ready to play with the tune on my LTx (See sig) because I need to change it from 4.10's to the 3.73's as well as play with the tune. Its close to dead on below 3000 but at WOT or anything else the wideband goes to 10:1 way to rich for NA.

So after fighting to find the right cable which just got here in the mail (A parallel to usb) so I can use the provided cable and tuning software (Lt1Edit although the two vins included do not match my vin... thinking the ECU may have been swapped since it used to be an Auto and was converted to manual) I want to take a crack at it.

However in reading I have found some huge differences in tuning then what I got used to in Megasquirt.
1) No changing on the fly you have to log and tune.
--For me I am concerned on being able to remember what the wideband said during that session to know how I want to adjust fuel esp since I will not have a data log of the wideband either.
How are you guys handling this issue? Are you just guessing until it gets closer?

2) Most seems straight forward but I have heard mention of Datamaster and Tunercats. Should I be using a different software? I have an ODBII Cable I use to check the codes on my 95 but its a style that's spec. to my Autoxray looks bigger than a normal cat 5 so I doubt I could use it anyway. But should I be looking at different software or sticking with the LT1Edit I have?

3) How about help if I provide the data I get here or a save of the log I make do we have tuners here who don't mind helping others get used to things and solve problems when stumped? I was thinking about buying a tune from Ion @ Madcat as he is a great guy but I would really like to figure this out myself if I can.

4) I believe the options to turn off the rear o2's, air, egr etc are all selections as well as the gear ratio in LT1Edit but what about the changes to the Knock Sensitivity I know Ion does. I need to check if I have an LT4 Knock Sensor I just have not done it (Something on the list to do as well as to buy if needed). Can anyone help me there or is that just another check box selection?

Pointers would be great, as I said I have tuned a car completely on Megasquirt but that was with a wideband hooked up and tuning it on the fly. I am just concerned about this setup personally and not being familiar with it.

Thanks!!

For street tuning, I use an LM1 with the rpm converter. That way I can log AFR's with RPM and base my adjustments on that.

I personally cant stand LT1edit, especially since you need seperate software to datalog. I'd look into the JET Dynamic Spectrum Tuner or EFIlive. I prefer EFIlive but it lacks a few parameters when logging. Most notably the knock data.

Jet is the new owner of the HP Tuner setup right? I have been looking for info on that as well.

I will look it up and see but since I have LT1Edit for now I am going to see just what I can figure out atleast for now. THe tune is not too far off just to rich at WOT.

Jet bought the TunerCats stuff right after they finally made it good. Its an all in one logging and tuning package.

I dont think HPtuners supports the LTxers at all.

As a tuning package, LT1edit is definitely capable. Its just hard to work with when you have to log with a seperate software package. It means swapping cables and all.

Then Tuner cats it is! Or did Jet change the name too?

The jet software is not an all in one scan/log/tune software. You can only tune with it, just like the lt1 edit. Atleast this is what I was told by tunercats and jet.

I use TunerCats but the only thing that I like about LT1edit is you can adjust the MAF tables by percentage.

Now you have me wondering but I adjust most tables with tunercats by scaling them .8 or 1.2, as an example. Which would be 80% or 120%

Does that work on the MAF tables? Seems like I have tried it but it does not work.

Yep thats the way to do it...I just copy into excel and make all my %changes there and copy back into the program.

Yes its does. this is how I make my part throttle and wot fueling changes. Just like you said, when taking away fuel you scale the number(s) in the table by say .95 to take away 5% or 1.05 to add 5%
