Ok How come in the LT1 syle car's most the firehawks are Formula's? how come they didn't make that many trans am's? what other things did the firehawk get over the ws6 also?
thanks

The way I understand it --- Formulas are faster in that they are lighter weight (none of the interior or cosmetic upgrades that TA's are burdened with)
I was actually surprised to meet someone with a Firehawk TA---but it was an '02 I believe.. and they didn't make Formulas the last 2 years, right?
Not sure on that though.

they made formula's in 01,02 I believe.
I understand the need the save weight and such but I have seen a few Hawk TA cars. They look like a reg. ws6 though.

Hmm.. I'm going to look into this.
Maybe the TAs were just .. special requests, or SLP was feeling saucy :)

this lends a bit of a clue...:hmm: I'm still researching
*finding pics of LS1 Formulas... they look like TAs everywhere but the low-rise wing.
On another note.. Ram Air corresponds with WS6 which began in 96??? So, these LS1 formulas with Ram Air are WS6 formulas..

ls1 formula's have a different front and rear bumper also. There is a member of my local car club with a hawk Trans am LT1 car. He road races the car. Yes you could get a ws6 formula in the ls1 style but they are rare.

If you go through all the years beginning with 1991, the majority are formulas with a few TAs scattered in there. I don't know the reason for this other than.. they either did it for the hell of it or someone asked them to
After 98 the majority is Trans Am..

Pilot car refers to the first few they made to show GM before they gave the go ahead for the project. LT Firehawks were made off the formula platform because of the power to weight ratio diffrence. I own 2 SLP cars ... a super rare 95 Comp T/A #13 (made less than 200 that year) and a 2002 Firehawk#189. My 96 T/A is a rare optioned WS9 yet shes my drag car because i cant bare modifying a numbered car.

Finally! Someone who knows :D Thank you sir.
I was wondering if a pilot car was kinda like a pilot show -- just to see how everyone reacts to it.

probably had to do with wieght like transamman said and that formaula's were more rare than t/a. i think in 92 they had a transam firehawk and it was a beast! im actually dissapointed in the way they handled them. they werent any faster than the ws6's by any large amount if at all and they were like 10k more. all hawks should have been the lt4's period instead of just a few. that would have made them more rare and more respected. the same should have been for the comp's. Just my 2 cents

ALL LT1s Firehawks are Formulas, Formulas are lighter more areodynamic, and came with less options(race car package)
In 98 they started doing both Formulas and TA firehawks to help sell more cars (some with really strange/ugly spoilers).
The difference beteen WS6 Formulas and Firehawks are WS6 cars were done at the factory, and Firehawks were done at SLP with a better free flowing exhaust, slightly different hood and ram air set up. Thats basically it.
I think all SSs were done at SLP
Oh and the 92 was also a Formula

NO LT1 Firehawks were Trans Am's. If you see one, it's a fake. ONLY Formula's were turned into Firehawks in the LT1 era.
Transamman25, I'm jealous. I'd LOVE to have a original Comp T/A.

I don't believe all were formula's. there are a few trans am reg. on the registry.

I'm not sure about the Camaro's, but the WS6 cars actually "technically" weren't a factory conversion. They were all done (including the LS1 cars for that fact IIRC) at ASCD and got an associated build number.

i'm guessing this one is fake but i got pics of it at the T/A nationals last year. The hood sticker says "Ram Air HO" which i think was the name SLP gave the hood when they started selling it so it most likely is a fake Firehawk.

Most likely. It's a lot easier to throw stickers on a car than change the bumpers/spoiler

Its a fake. They were all Formulas. Sean is right the WS6s technically werent done at the factory but they also were not done at SLP. Firehawks and SSs were and thats why the SS had the optional Slp exhaust that gave 310 HP over the Reg SS that had 305, Firehawks had 305-315 depending on the year for LT1. Oh and the hood sticker has the HP rating
My Car is 100% a real 96 WS6 Formula I have the orig window sticker and all the parts & numbers match etc. No where on the car does it say SLP.

that TA Firehawk is a fake cause also the early LT1 Firehawks had different wheels, not ws6 wheels, and no one in their right mind would get rid on the firehawk wheels for some oem 96-97 ws6 wheels.

There were two sets of rims used on LT Hawks, some that look just like impala rims but bigger and there was a set of thinner 5 spokes that had a smooth lip on it.

Firehawks also had a logo on the rear fascia, and all the hoods said "Firehawk" on them.

Thanks I was 16 in 93 and that was my dream car! Bought a brand new 96 v6 bird a week after i graduated HS in 96, and traded it in for a 97 Formula within a year, blew it up and bought a brand new 00 Formula.
Sold that got out of cars for a bit, and now I have my 96 WS6 Formula.
As you can see I love Formulas and always followed the Firehawk. I was actually upset when the started making LS1 TA Firehawks.

I think all TA guys were happy, but to me it was more like Pontiac selling out on the orig car just to make more money. I still love the TA 2 so dont get me wrong but it was taking something special that only the Formula had to offer and whored it out.
