I'm trying to delete it. Will the oil filter spin right on after removal?

With your 94 you will need to either buy new bolts, or do what I did and take a dremel to the studs sticking out of the heads on the factory bolts.

They stick out too far to let the filter spin on.

And then plug the radiator and water pump where the oil cooler went to - no need for them. :)

You plugged them completely off? Hunh. I guess that would work, considering the corvettes didn't even have that port drilled in the casting (image) (http://www.lt1info.com/TECH/Temp/0506htp_fresh_25_z.jpg).

Alternatively, I bought a lower radiator return hose for a non-oil-cooler-equipped LT1. It connects that lower driver's side radiator port with the port on the waterpump.

I did an LT1 swap into my car so I had to buy all the radiator hoses. It was a lot of fun trying to get it figured out between the different years - the radiator and the ports are the same but how and where the hoses route to are different depending on the year LT1.

But anyway, yeah when my dad and I went to the local auto shop to buy all the radiator hoses, the one guy told us we didn't need it and to just plug the ports with a plug kit they had (assorted sized plugs and matching sized hose clamps)

curious if anyone knows the bolt specs? i deleted my oil cooler on my old lt1 build but forgot that info :embarassed:

IF the LT1 cooler adapter is like the L31 Vortec engine's adapter, it lacks sufficient length to use to mount a filter. The drawing of the LT1 unit appears longer, but not knowing the thread or length of it, there's no way from here to tell if it would work or not.

If you want to use a filter adapter w/a pressure relief, use p/n GMPP 3952301. Mr Gasket p/n 1272 AND Jegs p/n 23605 are cheaper alternatives.

If you already have one lying around, you can use it. I choose to plug the bypass w/a pipe plug, YMMV.

Hardware: Bolts are ¼-20 x 1-1/4” long, torque is 8 ft/lb (96 in/lb), a gasket is available but seldom used- the oil still goes through the filter w/ or w/o the gasket.

You don't need to buy an adapter. You just reuse the one that was attached to the cooler plate and bolt it to the block.

is there any need for the ball that goes behind the adapter...and if so what is its purpose?

I think some of you guys are thinking too hard on this haha. I removed mine since it was leaking like a sieve anyway and my oil filter wouldn't clear with my headers.
Step 1: Drain coolant
Step 2: Remove complete oil cooler (more like a heater) setup.
Step 3: Remove adapter that is bolted to the block.
Step 4: Grind down the nubs on the 2 bolts you just removed.
Step 5: Replace the adapter back on the block with the bolts you ground down. (Make sure it's in the same orientation as when you took it off)
Step 6: Either block off the ports where the lines went to (Waterpump and Radiator) or do what I did and go to GM and buy the factory by-pass hose and connect the water pump to the radiator.
Step 7: Enjoy the minimal weight savings and less clutter under the car. You can also run the taller oil filter but be careful, I didn't realize after I did my headers and changed the oil for the first time that I didn't have enough room to remove the filter.....lol. So I went back to the short style. Will most likely depend on what headers you have.

That's it...
