Why do people have to try to be an "internet badass" ?

Sometimes I get bored at work and wander to other forums besides LTXtech...which I'm sure we all do because of the occasional lack of internet traffic here and the good deals we may find elsewhere. There is one forum that sticks out in my head ahead of any other forum that just has an abundance of internet badass's I won't mention the forum but we ALL KNOW which one it is. Why do people do it? It just seems pointless to me...

Battery is when someone physically touches someone else... so yes it was assault

But threatening or even just gesturing and giving the person a reasonable belief of imminent harm will constitute assault.

Someone talking shit online is nothing because it is simply that, just talking shit. I can say almost anything I want about anybody as long as it is not defamatory. But to actually go to someone's house because of some words online can get you arrested pretty quick.

There is a lot more to it then what is shown in a couple sentences.
It was not just some random person. We were previously friends (and are now friends again). We had some friendly rivalry between us and our Cobras (back when we were both running 11s. His car was a very quick (for its mods) N/A 96 cobra that had gon 11.40 @ around 119. I had run an 11.72 @ 123.9 in my 03.
I had not set up the supension and it was more of a street car, his was a gutted, full drag supension car that was optomized for the track.

His car was quicker, mine was faster.

He joined a site that I was on and in under his avatar it said fastest cobra in north port/ port charlotte.

I started a thread asking a simple question about the difference between the term quickest and the term fastest. That thread blew up into a 10 page (maybe more) flame fest, argument, butt hurt bunch of bs.


Needless to say, there was some tension between us. I dont remember the specifics, but there were a couple of threads that i posted in and he quoted me and had some slick comments to say. I sent him a PM and basically told him to stay out of my buisiness. He shot me one back with some shit like "you don't know who your messing with" and some other slick remark.

I happend to be at Stephs parents house on thier computer at the time, which is only a couple minutes away from his house. I did not drive there "just to fight him". I drove there to end it right then and there. I knocked on the door and said "lets go" and pointed away from the house. He told me he did not want to fight me. And went back and fourth a little about our reasons for bieng pissed and we agreed it was over until we raced.

I went over there to talk (which probably would have turned into a fight if he acted like he did online, but he didn't) and did not threaten him in any way, so there was no assaut commited.
I was never asked to leave, so I was not tresspassing. We talked it out and I left.

Yes if for some reason that the cops were called and friggin robocop showed up, Im sure that he could have forun a reason to arrest me, but it sure as hell would not have been anything that would have held up in court.

Fast forward to about a year or so later. His new car ran in the 10s N/A (i think 10.8) and ran a 9.94 @ 138 on a shot. We'll that one was over, there was no way in hell my street car would run that number.
When I finally put together my fuel system to be able to crank up the boost, he did me a favor and trailored my car up to RaceRealted to get it tuned. The next day I drove the car to a local track event. My goal for the day was to run a 10.4. my first pass was a 10.1 @ 138:) I REALLY did not expect that. Friends were talking about me possibly running nines (I still did not think it\would happen), next pass was a 10.01 @ 141:D
We'll maybe it will! My third and final pass was a 9.93 @ 142:metal:

The next day I posted about my times and was congratulated. I noticed that my friend had FINALLY removed the title from under his avatar:hmm:

I helped him pull the motor from his car for a new build. I guess he is looking to run 9s n/a and 8s on the sauce.

Nothing like some heated friendly and not so friendly competiton to motavate us to go from running 11s to running 9s, and then shooting for 8's:laugh:
