Can anyone tell me what the weight that mounts to the e-brake linkage on the rear caliper is for?

What is it's function? Is it for the proper operation of the e brake or to stop vibration of the rear calipers or something ? I know it seems like a stupid question.

I assume it is used for the e-brake operation, to counter balance the tension when you pull up on the e-brake handle....but I had my calipers apart to get them powdercoated and now when I pull my e-brake it doesn't work anymore....:shiner:

Did they work good before? Mine has never worked very well and the right won't release completely without help from a screwdriver. With an A4 I just don't use them.

yes mine did work good before, so I am kind of pissed that they don't anymore and I can't figure it out.... when I get back home I will have to go thru the whole brake system again to see what the problem is.
