so i was writing a file to my PCM today, for the 3rd time. Write gets done, fuel pumps dont kick like usual, but the fans come on and stay on as long as the key is on. CATS can no longer connect with the PCM. So wtf, i go get another one from the yard, did 4 writes and it did the exact same thing. This time it will still start and run like shit at least, but i cant understand what is going on. I have done probably 50 writes with this same program, and on the new pcm i even re-installed CATS from the website and used a different file to be sure neither were corrupt. I dont know what the hell to do, dont want to keep frying PCMs all the time anyone have any input?

Are you using a laptop inside the car when you are writing these programs? I don't know how all that works but I read one time to never have your laptops battery charger hooked up to the car while you are plugged into a diagnostic port because people fry the pcms sometimes. I just thought I would throw that out there. I've never done it before.

Is your car battery good? PCM ground maybe, just throwing ideas out, good luck man hope you get it figured out.

well the 2 computers i used yesterday are networked, and must have had some type of virus or something. I drug the old IBM 486 desktop out there today and put another PCM in, did probably 20 writes to it tonight with no problems

So the question i have now is, can i send these 2 PCMs out to somebody and maybe they can get them back into service?

Also, i was standing next to it leaning on a 8lb sledge, it was all i could do to not smash that fucking thing. One of the PCMs took a 30 yard flight across the yard though, lol. God i hate LT1s

thanks! ill be giving him a call. On a side note the car is running just awesome now, got the whole idle and cold start thing fixed and almost rid of the hesitation off idle. Oh, and no more black cloud behind it when in boost!

Tunercat used to say or still does say to read the pcm every time before you write/program the pcm. I blew up the Flash chips in my PCM when I didn't do a read but like the 3rd time I didn't do a read. Other causes could be anti-virus software, screensavers, buggy or poor-running laptop/pc, wiggling the cable when its programming, or low car battery voltage. It is also recommended that the latest versions of tunercat software and ee def files be used.

To repair the Flash chips in the pcm, you de-solder them, solder a socket in their place, place the new chips in the socket, and program the pcm. Madtuner sold me a socket and chip kit that I used to repair mine. As mentioned from the above post, Madtuner will also repair them.
