I am looking at a set of headers for my 95'. I have a single cat Flowmaster exhaust system and a cold air intake, the motor is completely stock. My car is very low so I'm not sure I can run long tubes.

My car sits pretty low as well (even worse with my "drag" setup) and I run long tubes without a problem. To this day I have not drug the headers on anything. I've snagged my Y-pipe on a couple curbs but never the headers.

My vote goes for a set of long tubes!

That's great! This car is my daily driver so I'm very concerned about scraping anything. Can you recommend a nice set of lt's that are also emissions legal in California?

Technically no longtubes are completely legal because they move the cat (if you keep it/them) away from the stock location.

You can get lt's that have emission fittings for the egr/air but if the inspection checks for the cat in stock location you will automatically fail

Does Cali require EGR/Air pump?

Mine are strictly long tubes and I dont give a shit or two about emissions :)

Ya cali requires EGR/air. I also need to keep the cat in its stock location.

I say you move out of Cali and have some fun with your car!

yea midtubes or shortys are your only option unless you personally know someone at the inspection shop

Haha maybe in a couple years...I'm only 16.

Great! Midtubes it is. Any suggestions on brand?

Really? Do you think inspectors know all the specific locations of the catalytic converters on every car?

Emissions is so lame...how is the EPA going to know that they let it pass unless they write on the inspection "CATS IN WRONG LOCATION, I PASSED HIM ANYWAYS, SEND FINE ASAP"

Ya, your right.
I just don't want to spend the time or money to modify my exhaust system to accommodate the length of lt's.

Mac mids and AS&M mids seem to be the most popular midtubes.

Do you think that emissions testers don't have diagrams and don't know that longtubes are illegal?

If he's willing to risk failing emissions and wasting his money on a set of headers that will cause his car to be useless then he can go right ahead. California is one of the most strict, if not the strictest, states when it comes to aftermarket modifications and emissions.

Oh.. California... I didn't read that... fuck that then. I would try to get it registered in a different state, but of course that's sometimes easier said than done.

There's no need for that, midtube headers will pick up if not the same, then almost the same amount of power as longtubes, they're just a bit pricey.

AS&M midtubes and a catted ypipe will be your best bet, but they aren't cheap.

I would suggest either a set of Arizona Speed & Marine mids as mentioned. They are the longest mids you can get and some places even call them a "long tube" but you can retain the cat in the stock location.

If cost is a concern, RK Sport makes the same exact header for a little cheaper.

The SLP mids are good also. All these 3 or still 1 3/4 primaries. Wheareas the MAC mids, although still a good option and people run them without issue, are only 1 5/8 primaries and restrict flow a lot more.

I have the AS&M headers on mine and love them. They picked me up 4 car lengths, and the car still isn't even tuned for them and is pig rich.

Don't let anyone tell you that long tubes are always the right answer, because they're not.

I run the the as&m mids by choice, not by necessity as there is ZERO emissions testing in my state.

You won't be disappointed with them.

Thanks for the suggestions! Looks like I will be getting a set of RK Sports.

Buy a set of Pasesetter LT's. We have somewhat strict emissions codes in NY, but you can get around it pretty easily. :secret:

I had Pasesetter LT's, ORY, and SLP LM2 exhaust on my old Formula, and it passed inspection. As long as I didnt have a check engine light on in my Formula, I was good to go!

AS&M is your only good option, They are a bit expensive but they are proven performers. They tuck up in stock location and keep the cat and all the air egr crap... I love mine.

I saw a pair of AS&M mid length headers on ebay a couple of weeks ago, went for about $200 I believe. I just put a set om my 94 T/A and love them.
Can't wait to get a tune and do some rr's and springs. Long tubes may be better for 400 plus hp cars but anything less mid tubes are the way to go.

Go with long tubes and get rid of that Flowmaster and all that emission crap you don`t need. Magnaflow makes a great system for our cars.

Being that there are SO many of you that DON'T live in CA, giving sugestions like "just put it the LT's and delete the smog crap" is really bad advise.

I live in CA and I run the pacesetter mids that have the E.O.# on the headers and are legal. You can still run a high flow cat. It tucks up just like the factory exhaust.

If any of you have looked at fluid dynamics, you can see the benifits of a tube header over a mass produced cast iron log manifolds, regardless of the size, 1-5/8 or 1-3/4.

So, is 5 HP worth getting your car impounded? Mine is not.

390 rwhp is just fine with me in a daily driver. ALL SMOG LEGAL IN CA.

Ya, everything's gotta be emissions legal.

Sometime down the road, maybe when i'm out of collage. I plan on building a forged, supercharged 500rwhp monster out of this car w/ my dad.

For boost should I stick with my stock manifolds or should i go with a nice set of mid tubes or shorties?

This is all just theoretical of course.:jest:

Why? I like how the flowmaster sounds, idc if it flows worse, it sounds sexy. :metal:
