Straight radiator question

I've been doing a lot of reading on the radiator mod where you stand the radiator up, and use a griffin one in it's place. But what I'm seeing is that nearly everyone that does this is drag racing. My question is, do you think that cutting that top support up will weaken the car enough to affect it in auto-x? My camaro is tri-purpose I guess you could say, auto-x, drag, and street.

Normally everybody welds in a tubular bar in place of the stock radiator support to keep it from flexing.Heres a picture of mine.
