i looked across many diff. websites in search of a answer which is better a stock descreened maf or a aftermarket granatelli maf most people say stick with the stock one but where is the proof that the aftermarket one is the bad most of the replys on the other websites have been backed up by nothing i own a 94,95,96 trans am's and all 3 are just about complete in all engine bolt on's they all have ported intakes to match the bbk 58 mm tb before with the stock maf my car seemed to start of rich in the mornings and would eventually level off to lean but now it starts of lean then goes a mid i have noticed a little difference in the way it runs and i like it it runs perfect from startup to full throttle so any else installed a aftermarket maf that had good results or what would be good to settle this if someone can post a dyno sheet comparing them would be a big help ???

Sorry no dyno proof but I have used a GMS unit and experienced neither positive or negative results from using it. I experienced zero difference between the two.
Again, just my opinion from my own experience. I guess my conclusion would be it's only going to be worth it if you get it for free.

I would stick with stock. Based on what I have read about these cars, if you're looking for serious gains don't bother with the MAF. Now, if you have a higher cube motor and/or running some kind of forced induction - then MAYBE. For the average bolt on car, you will get more out of an exhaust, intake, etc then you ever will with an aftermarket maf.
Also, unless you're female, periods are your friends.

well the reason i decided to buy the granatelli maf my list of bolt-on are running out for engine upgrades i'm pretty tapped out there is nothing left but 1 or 2 things i can still bolt on maybe the negative results for aftermarket maf came from owners with near stock cars cars? or other car related problems? my car used to run rich as heck because of the 58 mm tb and other induction parts with the granatelli maf it leaned it out a lot and while accelerating it becomes a little richer and maybe you guys are right it is a bit $$$ for a little gain but in the long run it will be that much better ???

STOCK MAF IS QUITE SUFFICIENT:hail:

The 2 tuners I've talked to prefer stock MAF's. The aftermarket ones give different readings, since they're larger they have to "fool" the PCM as to how much air is actually entering the engine. The stock MAF flows plenty of air unless your building a SR 383/396 but I guess that wouldn't be a bolt on car! Spend your money on a tune if you havent already! There are some pretty deep breathing 10 second N/A cars on here still runnig a stock MAF!:D

I had an aftermarket MAF and it worked just fine for me until I went with forced induction. Then the tuners all said to throw that aftermarket MAF in the weeds because it was to sensitive to have on a forced induction car. I never got any dyno numbers but supposably you gain 20 horse on a N/A car.

Actually it's the exact opposite. The only time you need to upgrade maf's is when the stock unit is maxed out from flow. Usually this happens to forced induction cars that move lots of air. The granatelli has a higher flow capability but they are a bitch to tune. Most tuners will tell you to ditch them regardless of the application. Moral of the story: Stick with the stock maf, if there ever is a time when you are outflowing the stock unit wich is around 500whp, a good tuner has tricks to work around that issue!
