I have a 94 Camaro and have been trying to upload a tune but am having issues. I am using a cable I bought from AKM electronics, with ALDL/USB connections. I am using Win Flash to upload the tune, however, when ever I go to do it, it says that there is an error communicating with the PCM. I checked to make sure the correct comm port is selected, and I believe it is, as there is only one that says it is available (#8 I believe). What might be causing these issues?
step #1 check the cigarrette lighter fuse:secret:

The cable I have does not receive power from any source outside of the computer or the PCM. And the fuse is fine.

Are you sure the fuse is ok? The reason he said to check that is because that fuse also controls the pcm port that you hook the cable up to
if the fuse is fine then i would check for a good power and ground at the dlc. you could have a open circuit and therfore not communicate with pcm. it happens to me all the time at work ad the main cause is a penny, dime, nickel in the cigarette lighter

The fuse is fine and the cigarette lighter works. Is there still some way that it could cause the cable to not connect properly?

The key is "on". My fuel pump kicks on and my radio comes on.

Ive never used winflash, but is there a way to change the port setting within the program?

This is the only option I seem to have when clicking setup>comm setup (which is the only option under setup).

Is this the same port you would datalog the car from? If so, do you have datamaster? does it read the port?

I have no idea, as I am using the version of winflash that only allows me to upload tunes.

if i remember right on obd1 systems when you connect the cable to it you create a circuit. remember the old trick of jumping the two top right terminals to recover codes? one is a ground and the other is power so i would check those to see. if the fuse is good you should have power. other than that i am lost cause i have no experience with what you are doing. i only do k re-flashes at work

Damn, nothing. I found that there is a small switch on the cable itself, that when I switched the EWP and fuel pump kick on, but still no change with the actual winflash program.

Did you install the drivers for the interface. Should have come with a CD. When you plug in the interface, is it recognized? It sounds more like you have a laptop issue rather than an issue on the car side.

You were right. I reloaded the software and everything loaded properly. Granted, my tune is still off, but that can be fixed.
