If you are wanting a better oil without the higher price of a synthetic. The deisel 15w40 motor oils that are availible from the majority of the oil companies carries a CH4 rating. When I receaved my T&D rocker arms the instructions came with a piece of paper saying not to use any of the new motor oil with a starburst emblem. These oils have a reduced amount zink and other additives. While the CH4 still haves the additives needed to help a motor live at higher rpm's.

Mobil 1 5w30 in everything I have owned so far, and no problems. Sometimes A/C filters, sometimes Mobil 1 filters... Depends on where I go.

Dont think I will ever use anything other than Mobil 1, its real good stuff. Even plan to run their diesel stuff in the diesel I am looking for to plow with this season. :D

I guess I'm the only one using good old conventional Castrol. I've used it in all my engines and any time I've had em apart they're still very clean. I think I'm gonna switch to Syntec when I rebuild this winter.

Actually i use regular castrol as well. I dont see the need to put 7 dollars a quart synthetic in an engine with over 120000 miles. If i had a new motor then i would definitly use synthetic.

:stupid:Your car has to be driven to need oil.

I put Synthetic in mine because that's what it came from the factory with and that's what it's had all of it's life (well... I can vouch for ~ 130k of the 150k miles on it)

Mobil 1 - 10w30 in the DD
Mobil 1 - 5w30 in the truck
Mobil 1 - 5w20 in the wifes Mazda MPV

K&N or Mobil 1 oil filters on everything.

FWIW, did you all know that the Mobil 1 and K&N oil filters are exactly the same except the K&N has the 1" nut welded on? Both of them are manufactuerd by Champ Labs and private labeled for each company.

This should help on your oil filter choices. The Purolator PureOne is one of the best filtering filters, even better then Mobil 1 and K&N, plus half the price. Fram is a pretty bad filter, stopped using them when my friend sucked the cardboard ends into his mildly built 350 and destroyed it. Researched it after and found this site and also that it's a common problem Fram's have. Alot of the same makers under different name brands. HTH

i dont want to start a debate, but i heard its reccomended to change oil every 3 months even if you dont drive 3k miles because metal gets in the oil which can damage your engine parts, is this true ?

M1 Synthetic 5W-30 turbo diesel truck oil, and M1 long filter.

Used to use delco filters, when they were good. If I cant get the M1, the Wix, Napa Gold (same as wix), or K&N are fine.

I use good old conventional Castrol 5w30, and a Wix filter with a race magnet on it. I know a few guys who run these magnets and they have saved a couple motors when their cams went flat. I also know someone with a 7 second rail that runs Rotella 15w40.

I don't think that's true. If you visit this website http://bobistheoilguy.com/

they're very knowledgeable and they have Blackstone and other companies test their used oil.

Blackstone alot of times says to keep the oil in use longer. People run these oils, especially synthetic for many miles and many many months.

New cars that are meant to run on synthetic say to run the oil for 15,000 miles.

On another note, I've always used Mobil 1, but I've read that M1 is not as great as it used to be. Hence why many have switched to German Castrol 0w30. I'll probably be switching to that on my next oil change, or I think Pennzoil Platinum was well regarded also. LT1 tests are rare, and hard to find, but most of these tests I've seen on bobistheoilguy.com are on LS1s.

These oils don't even hit their sweet spot till a couple thousand miles of use.

valvoline maxlife 5w30 synthetic blend, and whatever filter is cheapest. my car has a ton of miles on it, and i really don't think it's going to make a huge difference to spend $20 extra every oil change on full synthetic crap lol..
