i have a buddy who just got some 1.6rr aluminum bowtie roller rockers for his 96 formula m6 car, he has nothing but edlebrock shorty headers and y pipe and a cutout. Is it ok to put the 1.6 roller rockers on the stock springs? im pretty positive that you can i just figured id ask.

Can you, yes. Should you/would I, no.

The stock springs suck for 1.5's on the stock cam, throw in 1.6's and they'll be close to coil bind and even more likely to valve float. It could actually end up hurting your power especially if the springs are high mileage from less valvetrain stability in the upper rpm's.

The factory springs are not all that good however i have had my 1.6s on for a long time now sees 6000 rpm OFTEN however to do it correctly to avoid possible carnage he should atleast use the Lt4 spring KIT if money is a factor but if he has some xtra $ a set of PAC springs would be a great improvment.

I ran LT4 springs for a while with 6k+ rpm all the time with no problems with the 1.6rr's. The springs are all you need they reuse the stock retainers and everything and would be worth it IMO, I just took mine off when I switched cams. Altough if he has the money get nice springs and retainers so he can do a cam swap later if he wants.
