Blockage in the line possibly?? Have you tried seeing if there's pressure in the system by giving the valve plunger on teh low side port a quick push?

If there is pressure in the line, it could be a couple of things. One, if there's too low pressure in the system the compressor won't kick on. This however, wouldn't cause the system not to take refrigerant. Two would be the compressor or clutch has gone out and you're looking at some $$$ to replace. That's about the extent of my A/C knowledge.
