I'm going to be painting my factory LT1 rotors and calipers. I want to use hi-temp red on the calipers and hi temp black on the rotors on the hub area and around the outside so its not all rusty looking. Anyone have any tips for me before I start this and how many cans of paint should I get of each? Thanks :)

For the calipers, I used one spray can of red, one can of clear. I also used black for the brackets.
My advice, think about powder coating. Mine chipped while installing them. I THINK it might be because the paint was really thick. I thought I had sanded down more than that to keep the coats thin.
I used a wire wheel on a drill and brake parts cleaner to clean most of the crap off. Then used a grinding stone to knock down some of the casting seams (actually, on the front I layed down one coat, then realized I wanted to grind it off). Then used ~180grit sand paper on a sanding block. After I had some layers of paint down, I used 1800grit between coats.
After wire wheeling and brake cleaner.

Final coat of red. No clear yet.

Powercoating will last much longer but if you don't mind touching them paint every year or 2 then paint works just fine.

I had mine sandblasted and powdercoated. And they will last for a very long time. They are LS1 calipers.

That would be the way to go if i was taking them apart, but I forgot to mention I am painting them with them still on the car, so spray paint will do for now.

Ahhh still on the car i see. Good luck then. I"d go the extra mile and take 'em off and get it done right. cost me 130 to have all pieces sandblasted/powdercoated.

Looks great. I will do mine over the winter.

Definatly worth it I think. The Powdercoating should last forever and the intense heat of the breaking won't make it start to flake off like it eventually will with paint. I threw on those decals and a few coats of clearcoat which I will have to redo every few years Im sure.

Ditto!! ^^ I've seen quite a few of painted calipers that look cheesy. Take your time and do it right.
