Did you buy that short used? Or new? TRW pistons are shit.

You should spray the untouched bottom end now and save that other block for when you need it. I'm running 11:1 in my 355, why the 10:1?

You'll be swapping motors an awful lot?

Its a built short block, that was run to make sure everything is in good order.
The motor wont make anymore power, well maybe like 5HP lol, it will handle the higher RPMs much better and the kit.
SD, What makes you say the TRWs suck? Ive only read good things about them.

I beleive the pistons are 10.1 with stock heads and gaskets. My heads are milled down .030 and I use MR G 5716s that are .026
I contacted Lloyd about it, b4 I bought it and he thinks it will be perfect for my top end, and plans.
This motor will go in soon, and sometime down the road after everything else in the car is done Ill start the 396, could be years from now, and I dont see blowing up a motor with good parts I could sell to make me cash back a good Idea, yes it would be easier and fun while it lasted, its still not a good plan IMO.

Oh and I paid 800+ a bare block I bought for the 396, he was asking 2k to start.

TRW stuff is just oem spec junk, what material are those? I know your not going crazy with this but not all 'forged' pistons are the same ;)

And whats this about a 396 block? You got a machined block or you got a factory 4 bolt block your going to use for a bigger engine?

No I bought a stock 2bolt long block parted the guts and kept the block to build a splayed 396, but havent done anything with it. Still just a 2bolt bare block.

From what I read the Forged TRWs are more durable than some other high dollar pistons but are slightly heavier. I did read a couple guys had probs spraying 300+ (cracked ringlands), but most said they run them for years on the bottle, without issue. Then I looked around and everyone has issues no matter what piston they were using and it basically ends up being a bad tune.
This build isnt anything crazy but it will be alot better, safer than the stock short.
Oh and it says they are made of a special aluminum alloy that doesnt expand as much as other alloys

So you got a stock LT1 block for $800?

It sounds like you should, as others have said, run you setup how it is now on a small hit and have this new engine ready after.

no no no. A while back I bought a stock long block for 500, stripped it down sold everything but the block so it ended up costing about 50 bucks for the block.
Then I traded that bare block plus $800 for the 355 short.

In the end it cost me $850 for the 355 already built to the specs in the orig post, just need to swap it in.

I saw that for sale on CTR but was curious why it wouldnt work with a high lift cam, but with stock heads it only has 10.1?

On a side note that guy wanted 2k for that thing, good buy.
