Why a .060 overbore?

z28rob18
05-18-2009, 12:45 PM
i picked the block up off of a guy for a good price the block was already .040 over. they didnt wanna go .050 over because then itd need custom pistons. so they did .060 which im not to thrilled about i feel its wearin the walls pretty thin but cant change it now

o and also. wen i talked to the machine shop for the info to order my heads i found out that they only went.041 over. so my dad called back because they said they went .060 because .041 would need a custom ordered piston. well they went.041 and told us they hav the pistons for that on the shelf. then were lik so you want to go .060 and of course we dont. this shop is so retarded we cant wait to get our shit back itll be the first and only work they do for us.

got a bit more done took the weekend off the gf woulda killed me if i worked all weekened. so we painted the engine bay which looks amazing the pic doesnt show how good it is. its a darker metalic grey. and my friend spent 2hrs sand blasting all 4 brake calipers and the upper A-arms painted all them. and polished 1 header to sell. it took all night to do 1 header. wont get much done tonight ill be cleannin up a bit so its cleaner to get the new stuff in. here's a few pics.

well last night was interesting puttin the kmember back to get it as a roller. well our hoist broke. we had to use a jack to get the the car down off the blocks my dad almost died. we put a jack on cinder blocksand a 4x4 on the jack not thinkin that the jack couldnt wheel back as we let it down. so as it went down the 4x4 rolled and boom the car came down fast but it was right onto the jackstands and not onto my dad. (please dont tell me how dumb it was i already know) so that was my night i hav one pic.

so. went to put the rear together the other night and wen we tightened down the backing plate the axels wouldnt turn. figured the plates were the wrong way but theres only one way for the plates to go. searched and thought there was a shim missing. there wasnt. the machine shop put the backing plates on the wrong axels wen they put the bearings on. im pissed and now kinda worried that they are machining my motor. i pray they do that right.

How much extra weight is the heating system anyways?

well after a very late and difficult night the rear is in the car and most of the suspensions on. sway bars off and the tq arm needs new bolts were it mounts on the chassis. we completly did it wrong twice first time we put the springs in and jacked it up tryin to mount the shocks. it took a 2' tumble off the jack. second time we put the lca's on and jacked it up it helped but forgot the tq arm and made it a pain at the end. another problem was missing bolts. either mice are walkin off with them or my friend that helped take it apart didnt put them where they should be. but its in here's a few pics.

hung the sway bar last night and check the wheel fitment over the new brakes. the greg welds barely fit over just the rotors and the jegs stars barely hit the calipers. so i need a new set of street wheels. forgot to take a pic of the sway bar finished hangin on the rear so here's the one pic i got.

well guys one of the coolest things so far on the build was started last night. our one friend backed out but my dad had another who really really knows transmissions. so we cracked open the trans and he started to rebuild it. got it all apart we stopped because i need to get new blocker rings. but after we took it apart he actually took time to explain some things said it was one of the easiest trans' hes ever taken apart. also said it was real clean inside with not much wear if any.he'll be back sunday to finish it. here's a few pics i took.

I'd recommend the steel forks out of the viper spec t56, and carbon fiber blockers if nothing else.....It'll help keep that t56 happy against that 9.80 goal of yours...just an opinion

well today has been AWESOME!!!! one of the best days of this build. we took a ride to the machine shop and picked it all up. it is sweet! have tons of boxes of parts from them and a ton of picks. also had carbon fiber blocker ring kit overnighted so the trans can be finished tomorrow. but the motor should get build this week. and possibly be between the framerails. but i go away on vaca for a week startin the 18th which i was lookin forward to but not anymore since ill be so close to gettin it done. well here's a bunch of pics.

well got some well i think alot done last night not as much as i wanted to yesterday though because of some college shopping. we brought the rods and pistons inside and installed all the spiralox we thought that they'd take all night but turn out simple. then we got all the rings on the pistons. fixed our oil ring problem they didnt sit right thats because the diamond pistons came with a ring for the oil groove to fill space. so tonight they go into the block and the cam might too. i got some pics of my dad puttin the spiralox and rings on because i got a new phone.

z28rob18
08-11-2009, 06:35 AM
well last night went well. hit one bump in the road but cruised the rest of the way. we hav a short block. pistons r in rod bolts reclearanced and torqued the cam is in and degreed the whole timing chain set up is on as well. the one thing that we had a problem with is the rods needed to be spun around because there's a thicker side and we had it facing wrong. so here's the pics i took throughout the night. tonight we'll get some play doe and check the valve clearance

Having never dealt with shaft mount rockers before, I take it you have the mounting rail which bolts into the stud bosses, then the shaft and rockers get bolted to this? No machining needed? Just curious.

z28rob18

the jesel shaft mounts r lik top of the line they can be spun way faster then ill ever spin them but ive seen them on cars that'll spin to 8000+rpm.

the sportsman line... i wouldn't use them past 8k rpm and there's been some failures running them past 600 lbs open pressure. I think jesel only recommends them for like 250/550. They're exactly what the name implies... a sportsman shaft mount. I'm going straight to T&D for my shaft mounts. Spendy but they're top notch.

z28rob18

Man I heard nothing BUT good things about the guys at Nitrous outlet for YEARS...

I FINALLY decided to drop the coin for the good stuff, called 'em up, everything was great... very helpful on the phone, I bought a Kit which included everything for a wet system... when it arrived I had everything but the plate, which is what sold me on the kit... So I called'em up.

Initially they tried to beat me out of another $50 for the plate, but I explained that I bought the kit because of the plate thing, and that I couldn't care less about the $50, but that I wanted the plate on PRINCIPLE! Ultimately they agreed to send the plate at no further charge...

That was a YEAR ago... I've REPEATEDLY called 'em, emailed 'em and I've heard that they were 'back ordered', 'just sent out for power-coat', etc, etc...

I've just decided that Nitrous Outlet aren't reputable people and do not operate a reputable business.

So BE CAREFUL WHEN DEALING WITH THE CHARACTERS AT NITROUS OUTLET...

They're scammers.

ItSSlowZ28

05-31-2011, 05:15 PM
Well I gotta say, that the comments regarding NO, are exactly what I heard before I called 'em...

I'm at a loss to understand why they've chosen to bust it off in me. All I did was pick up the phone, talk to their tech, order what he recommended and give 'em my card info... I don't recall the amount, but it was around $5-600 for a TB plate, gaskets, a couple of selonoids, a pack of jets, some tubing and the missing plate...

Like I said, they initially said they'd take care of it, but after numerous calls and emails we remain short that silly plate. It's been over a YEAR.

LOL... I can't IMAGINE one of my customers waiting a year for ANYTHING they paid for.

Oh well, didn't mean to hijack the thread... just trying to spread the word on my experience.
