I'm sure this has been covered before. What is the easiest way to pull the crank hub? I can see a lip on the shaft that it needs to clear. I though I would ask the experts before I screw something up.

You'll need a harmonic balancer puller. The thickness of the stock bolts are too thick for most pullers. Get 3 Grade 8 3/8x4" bolts, along with nuts and 6 washers. Also get a bolt that is a few inches longer than stock for the hub bolt. Thread the longer bolt into the crank, then place a socket over the bolt head. Next setup your puller and slowly crank down the puller and the hub will slowly slide off the crank snout.

Don't thread a bolt to push against into the crank snout, you can damage the threads. Use a hardened bolt that is smaller than the threads, so it sits inside, then press against that.

If the bolt is bottomed out in the crank, how is it going to damage the threads? I've removed many of hubs this way without any sort of problems. You have more of a chance of messing up the threads with a smaller bolt IMO.

Go get the right puller. You'll be amazed at how having the right tool for the job pays off.
Removing the hub is the easy part. Installing it is a bit different.

get a SBC specific one from summit they work so much better then the ones you get from napa etc...
I got on from napa and tried the Smaller bolt theory, first of all their bolts they provided were too small for our bolt pattern (and it was universal) so i used dinky bolts with lots of washers and it took awhile but it came off....
i return it afterwards after cracking the cup thing on the press... lol damn lifetime warranties and i broke it in a half hour.... :claps:
