thanks guys

I am hoping to see some nice gains from the intake + other little changed. I also tried going with a short belt to bypass the PS with our alt/ps kit and it worked, so I'm sure there is a couple HP there as well :)

Do you drive it on the street often?

Speed Inc.
04-19-2009, 09:02 PM
yes I have, but this setup will see limited street due to the tires and not wanted to get bothered by the police

I have my radials that will go back on after the shootout and it will again get driven on a regular basis when nice out. I have driven it numerous time to and from the track over 1 hr each way.

once when it was 35 degree's and boy was that cold :)

Lookin great as usual Larry, You're right, the intake turned out a little different than mine, mine has one less bend in it. Did you have to oval the TB end of the pipe to get it to clear the thermostat housing? It doesn't look like you did in the pic, but its hard to tell....

Are you planning to make a rad support/cover for it or just gonna leave it open?

Nice! :D

I'm hoping to make it down to the shootout this year. I'd love to see your car in person and watch it make some passes down the track!

I first had it with just the single bend, but the filter being so large was against the radiator and my trans cooler. This made me move it further out front where some nice cool air will be and the trans cooler is behind it now as well, but to the side.

pipe is slightly crushed oval to fit better a the TB

I will have the guys bend me up a shroud tomorrow...come on man you knw that engine bay could not be left like that in my car :)

cool... if it's not in the budget to bring the car at least pile some guys ( girls would be great too ) in a car and head down to watch and support the event.

My filter is up against the radiator, but my filter is a bit smaller plus I don't have to worry about a trans cooler ;)
I was worried about it picking up heat from the radiator at first, but I figured as long as the car was moving it wouldn't be a problem. I confirmed it by driving around town (~45ish mph or less and in traffic too) on a 70 degree day for about two hours. Then as soon as I got home I popped the hood and felt the tube, it was nice and chilly ;)

I figured you'd have a shroud built for it, but you didn't mention it so I was just checking...you're right, your engine bay is waaaay too nice to run without it :D

What size pipe did you use for the CAI and were they prebent pieces? I think I may have to copy your idea rather than going with the LS1 lid. Well that is if you don't mind :)

That car is going to be sick, I really hope I can pile the friends in my truck and make it down for support, but its not looking good right now but I'm trying my best LOL Keep up the good work though, the hard work really shows

devonsZ28

that looks badass

Speed Inc.

2 pre bent pieces were used

1 3.5" 60 degree bend
1 3.5" 45 degree bend
2 pieces of straight 3.5 silicone
1 3.5 x 4 inch coupler

The brake issue was the rod on on the manual master was slightly binding. This was causing the fronts to stay on since it would not push the pedal back fully. I slightly loosened the road end and double nutted it and it's good now.

thanks for the compliments everyone

Just for the record, this style of CAI that Larry and I have is not for everyone. For it to work, you can't have AC (no room for the condenser) and the bumper support has to be removed, also the hood latch support has to be cut out.

Larry, your car looks stunning under the hood as usual :)

^^^ thanks guys, I don't have AC anymore and was looking to do an LS1 lid swap, but this idea looks ALOT cleaner IMO Trimming on my car doesn't bother me. But why does the bumper support have to be removed? I figured there would be enough room for a filter infront of the radiator. And any pics of the trimmed latch support?

Now that you mention it, if you set it up like mine (1 bend) you may be able to keep the bumper support. But, if you set it up like Larry's, I'm fairly sure that it's gotta go.

I think I've got some pics on my camera of the trimmed latch support, I'll check when I get home tonight. It's easy to see if you look at it....you'll see the two braces coming down from it in a "V" shape, just remove it, cut the "V" off, and reinstall it :)

Yeah I'm sure I would have the room if I set it up like yours. Larry's looks badass and would probably get alot cooler air and more of it, but my car does see all street driving and I don't try to drive it in the rain but it does happen sometimes and having the filter up a little higher would give me a little better piece of mind.

I'm going to do my filter setup like what you have, but I have to get my interior back together right now and get it back on the street, then I'll work on it.

Where are you guys ordering the prebent pipe?

Thanks again for the info

DrGas.com

It's a 3.5" 60 degree mandrel bend on a 1D radius. Keep in mind that you have to clearance your radiator to clear the pipe too.

Also, something about airflow you may or may not have realized, my filter sits directly above the air dam that forces air upward for the radiator. I'd be willing to bet that my filter sees far more air from that than it does from the two small openings in my grille. In Larry's case, duh, his feeds from his wide open grille :D

About the driving in the rain thing, the car is not my daily driver so it rarely sees rain. But in the off chance that I get caught in a downpour, I bought one of those K&N drychargers that goes over the filter. It supposedly repels water to an extent. I wouldn't try to drive through a deep puddle or anything, but it'll certainly help keep it dry just driving in the rain.

On a side note, I sent my tube and shroud off to be powdercoated today, so next time I post a pic of it, it should look alot better :D

1 more question for you guys.....what filter are you using? I looked in the K&N book at autozone and only found 2 oval filters with a 3.5" inlet. I want to get the biggest filter I can and they are only about $40 each, so about $75 total for a good filter setup is worth it to me, well plus a modded radiator support and a couple of 3.5" silicone connectors

Thanks again, I'm ordering the bend on Friday and the filter probably next week since I'm poor right now :(

I actually have a halltech C6 filter on my car which is around $120

it is actually 4" in, but I used a 3.5 sleeve on the MAF for the difference

OK haha I think I'll get the K&N I can't afford another $120 right now, the wife would kill me  But the filter I'm looking at is 4.5" thick, 7" long, and 7" wide with a 3.5" inlet. And if it doesn't fit my brother and my buddy both work there so I can return it no problem and get a different one, but I think I'll have plenty of room for that filter and its a LOT bigger than my moroso filter

I used a K&N part # RC5040 at first. It's a little small IMO, so right now I'm working on a dual filter set-up for mine using two RC5040s ;) I'll post some pics when I get it all done.
