I just pulled off my front bumper cover, and yanked off that honeycomb bumper support apparatus.

My goal is EXTREME weight reduction, but not at the cost of safety. I plan on driving the car to the local track, racing, and driving home. Thats it. It will never be street driven just for kicks.

Am I wrecklessly endangering myself without that support, or is it common practice to ditch it as dead weight?

I realize that the car has a much higher chance of being totaled in a minor fender bender without it, but I don't really care about that. The car is such a junker anyways, that doesn't bother me. IMHO, it's already totaled, I'm just trying to ressurect it's corpse.

I personally wouldnt do it... After spinning out and hiting a guardrail at about 40mph... Head on... I swear by them. I basically only needed a new front bumper and new passengers side fender (had a 1/4in crack in it).

I'll post a pic up if I can find one of my Formula and let you be the judge. ;)

I have pulled my front and rear supports but its not a daily driver by any means... its a little more flimsy but looks great and lost around 50 pounds. But to each there own... just dont crash if you take them off. So my vote is loose those things.

Indeed. I had a Civic take out my front end. His car was completely totaled, but I just needed a new bumper. No biggie really. If you are driving it on the street for any significant amount of time, I highly recommend you keep it.
