I removed my computer and all of the engine wiring. But I'm no longer running the factory dash cluster. I think the ecm controls the speedometer.
Most people that have gone to a carb cut the cowl area of the firewall. You could run a low profile dist and a crank trigger and turn the carb sideways if you don't want to cut the cowl but it will be about impossible to phase the cap and rotor.
If your not going over 7200 rpm's there is no real gain to a carb. But once the rpm's go up the carb is a little cheaper then an aftermarket ecm, harness, and injectors. It will also take a fair amount of tuning to make it a nice street driven car.
I hope some of that helps

If your only turning 6800 I would just run the factory ecm. Send the intake out to a decent head porter and you will be fine. The only other thing you will need is a good set of injectors.

+1 the only other reason I see a beneficial switch is to run a conventional distributor IF you have been having opti problems
