I work on an AF base and they some times tell me I need to turn off my headlights when driving onto base. I've told them time and time that I can't because they are automatic. I know most vehicles have a way to shut them off manually. Is there a way that I can shut mine off?

I wasn't aware that any 4th gens had automatic lights? the switch is on the left hand side under the air vent turn it all the way to the left

Mine does and I know where the switch is. It is always in the off position.

Pretty sure someone must have changed the wiring on your headlights then

I've never seen an early 4th gen with DRL. I know the late 4th gens used them.

Have you tried pulling your e-brake up just one click? Most cars will deactivate the DRL using this method.

Nope it's factory.

All '97's have DRLs.

Here's how to disable the automatic headlights. Scroll down to "disabling the automatic headlights only." http://xse.com/leres/ss/drl.html

You could also try engaging the e-brake one notch while on base. (It's not going to engage your e-brake at one notch)

I'm pretty sure the DRL's and automatic headlights came about in '97 which is the year of my Camaro. The e-brake thing only works when it is pulled up before you start the car. If you put it back down then the headlights kick back on. It's not a big deal, I was just wondering if there was a secret to it (besides the e-brake).

Bah! I had a feeling the '97's would of had them.

One click on my e-brake stops the car lol. It's a little tight I assume.

That's incredibly overtightened.

This is a stretch.. Buuuuut.....

On the newer S-10s there is a push button interior light over-ride... if you push it in and out 2 or 3 times, it kills the running lights. Basically, start stabbing it as fast as you can till you hear a "chime" and the lights go out.
Worth a try.

I'm sure there a way to wire in a relay that overrides that. Search around. I guess I'm lucky since I bought a '96

The automatic lights don't bother me. I was just curious if there was a way to turn them off if I needed to. It doesn't sound like there is.

Thanks for the info guys.

i think 97's had DRLs.

i remember someone with a 97 T/A saying they hated the DRLS when their headlight motor gear went bad because every time they went into a tunnel the headlights would flip up and then down when they went out :jest:

The ebrake thing should work. On my tahoe ('97) when I come home late at night I don't like shining the lights into their house so I shut off the lights and click down the ebrake 1 click. My '00 Grand Prix, '99 Grand Am, and my '98 Sunfire all worked the same way. Didn't matter if the car was started and had been driven, as soon as the brake was engaged they would shut off. Mabye your ebrake switch is broken, or something along those lines.

Good luck though

In my 93 TA Canada brochure, it makes mention of DRL. So it maybe just the US cars that got them later
