This factory replacement just isn't gonna suffice. I want something that will hold a H/C setup down the road. What are the popular ones that people are having good luck with? I've searched over on the horrid site known as LS1Tech but haven't found any good info really.

I'm pretty much open for anything. I dont care how hard the pedal is, I don't DD the car.

Get me in the right direction, please!1!

Ultimate? Street twin. :D That will hold ANYTHING down the road.

Spec 2 or 3+ would probably do you fine. The 2 drives like stock but bites great. The 3+ isn't as harsh as the 3 and has a nice soft pedal too, but is a bit more pricey.

I went with a street twin, just waiting for it to come in. You will never need to worry about it again!!!! Yes its pricey but should be worth it!!!

It's not even an option to get a street twin w/o the matching flywheel. Your options are steel, or aluminum.

alright i wasnt sure if they came with a flywheel or not i thought they did. so the price is about $1300 and the price of a stage 3+ wit a flywheel is about 950. so y not spend the extra for the better

I believe my clutch is ok, just my pressure plate is weak. But I should upgrade the entire setup while I have the tranny out.

With it being your weekend toy where you're just after the best numbers it'd be stupid not to step up to a better clutch to prevent slipage. Hell, I've had my stock replacement clutch slip at the track before. I really wish I splurged and got a Spec II.

I dead hooked on a 4500 side step :)....... Go 10 bolt! No go stock clutch! :shame:

If I were to splurge on that twin-disc, theres a chance my car wont be ready for the shootout.... what to do?

spec 3's take a beating - but dont expect it to drive like a stock clutch or youll have problems.

If I wanted it to drive stock, I would of left the car stock in the first place;)

Stock is the new boring, right?

Stock is the new boring, right? He didn't know you only put 2k miles/year on it. For me, my car is more of a cruiser and I'd go with a Spec II seeing as I put about 10k/year on my car.

I have a RAM Powergrip for my LE2 H/C/I. It drives great on the street and holds good when I get on it. I don't go to the track so I'm not sure how it will hold up there.

x2 I've heard good things about the streetability of the Powergrip, and if you have any doubts in the powergrip, the powergrip HD will hold a good amount of power.

I personally have the Spec 2 with my cc306. It has great driveability on the street, perfectly "slippable" even with my M6 with 2.73s. I've used my 4000 rpm two-step a couple times on the street and the clutch hasn't even hinted at slipping and it has around 30k miles on the pressure plate and 15-20k miles on the disc.

My old Board name was burntclutches - I have had every clutch manufactured for the LT1 except the Twin Disk (I have installed 3 and had one sent off for "rebuilding" - they do wear out). I have found after 1 RAM (POS), 3 Centerforce (OVERpriced), a couple of SPEC's that the Spec was the most reliable - I have beat the tar out of it on the bottle and DR's with no prob's - I did break an early version of the Spec II - I know run a Spec III kevlar and have had zero issues. The biggest issue I had was when I "thought" the bronze bushing would work better than the GM pilot bearing and the noise was unbearable when normal driving. I "repucked" my stage III at my rebuild and put the bearing back in. - Same PPlate and TOB - I have beat the living crap out of this thing and it just smiles at me. The service from SPEC has been phenominal- when I broke my stage II they sent me a replacement for free and only charged me 70.00 when I had my disk repucked. Not saying you should go with it, buy I will never buy from anyone else.

This helps me with my original gut feeling of going with the Spec III. I need something that'll shatter my 10 bolt :shame:

One good 1-2 shift with a freshly broken in spec and you will! I broke two 10 bolts and then upgraded to my Moser 9in. :D

my spec 3 chirped 4th consistently in a bolt on only car, video evidence here:

YouTube - 95 Z Holeshot Chirping Fourth

What I was saying by dont expect it to drive like stock was that you HAVE to drive it differently. Yes, they are grabby you already knew that... but i see tons of people bitching about clutch chatter and bla bla bla I cant handle going through a drive through bla bla bla. Understand one thing: a spec 3 clutch is ENGAGED or DISENGAGED. you do not p****-foot around with it, slipping it at 1000 rpms. These clutches need pressure on them to be happy. On a normal take off, rev up some good RPMs --- then ease off the gas and just let it out. (I try to let the rotation inertia of the flywheel get my car off the line on a casual takeoff) I can drive mine around smooth as butter and my passengers dont even notice anything. Most of the posts ive read about driveability issues are bullshit. You install a performance clutch, learn how to drive it and quit whining. It sounds like you wont have a problem with that though ;)

you will be plenty happy with a spec clutch then. the only thing that sucks is the break-in ... takes a while. But once you hit the recommended mileage (I went 1000), take it out and set it in. Get 4 people in the car and give her a good 3k sidestep :D The harder i drove mine after the break-in, the smoother and harder it grabbed.
