Some say its unsafe, other have done it for years. Any of you guys ever ran them on your car? I've ran a 315 on the 9.5" more than once and personally I didnt have any issues but like I mentioned before theres a lot of folks that say its way to much.
Just wanting to see what you guys have to say about it.

I've ran the Goodyear Eagle GS-C a few times...
I've never been a big nitto fan, theyre decent radials for street cars but IMO theyre junk on the track. My first 4th gen had 305's on the 16" rim when I bought it.
See, what gets me is all the people saying no you can't, its a bad idea, its unsafe... but call any tire shop and they'll tell ya they do it all the time with no backfires or problems.

My friends old roommate had a '96 Formula with 315 Nittos on 17x9 WS6 Wheels.
I wouldn't recommend it, but if you do get a tire that runs narrow (such as Nittos)

It's just risk to put that wide of a tire on that thin of a rim.. if you hit a large pothole or bump hard enough it could easily break the bead

I run a nitto 315 DRs on my stock WS6 rims with 0 problems. I hear any other tire is pushing it. 315 nittos look like 275 MT DRs

Thats why I went with the 315s. I made that mistake b4. I ordered the same size as the stock tires and they ended up looking like I had smaller tires out back :(

Damn Mike....Like rubbing salt in a wound:laugh:
I guess I can deal for now I only paid $200 shipped for the pair brand new so I guess I got a deal.
I definitely wouldn't run the Sumitumo's on a 9.5" wheel. They buldge enough as os on the 11".

but, have any of you guys ran that big of a tire before? I was reading on some of the vette forums and came across a few threads on it, and I wanted to bring it up again here just to see some thoughts and opinions.

ACHotrod do you have any pictures of like good rear shots of your car with the 315s? i'm seriously interested by this whole idea and with the power and suspension you got put with the tires i think if it works for you then i'd be just fine...

^ Thats a narrow ass 315!
I've noticed to get them to launch on the street the Nitto's like about 20psi and a good burnout, that was what I found with the 275's atleast.

Yes, but that can happen with any wheel and tire setup, especially with the lower profile tires we use on our cars.
I will order the 315s for my 9.5" wheels, but only the nittos unless I get my 11" rears before my tires wear out. Running a BFG or a M/T would just be stupid. I about bought a set of 11" ZR1s with BFG 315 DRs and DAMN those things are huge LOL

Damn AChotrod!!! That looks good, does look narrow but still sweet! I think my mind is made up. So do you use those on the track or just street and slicks on track?

They are my all around tires. I just bought a set of pro stars with 275/50-15 MT DRs for the track. My Nittos like 18psi and a healthy burn out and they hook ok. I dont drive the car that much so they last forever on my car.

close enough, good eye. 325/50/15 on 15x8...I don't see al the concern with a 315 on 9in wheel. If anyone's going to have a problem I think it would be me, and these have been on the car for almost two years now.

I think I'm gonna go with those new Nitto NT05s. They look great. Looks like it would handle better in the rain the DRs. I wonder if some 315-35-17's would fit well on my C5 wheels that currently have 275s? I'm looking to get some new tires this summer.

I've never had an issue with the 555R's in rain.
Only tires ive ever seen get sketchy in rain are M/T radials and ET streets

since 315's are pretty much the max you can run on a 9.5" rim, what is the average size tire that someone puts on the 9.5" rim.
275/40/17???

yup. some run 285/40/17, but 275/40/17 is the recommended/most common.

I just mounted my 315 Nitto DRs on 9.5 ZR1s and they fit fine. They do bulge out some but I still feel safe driving around on them. We will see how well they do at the Shootout.
