I installed a trick flow intake elbow

but.. it didn't have the little hole for the OPTI vent.. but it came with a rubber seal that i've seen used in the hole to keep the vent in place. they probably sent me the wrong one.
I've ordered it more than a month ago though and for right now.. i just have the vent sitting there next to the elbow.
I was thinking of just drilling a small hole in the elbow and using the rubber seal myself.

Intuitively i can't see why the vacuum hose just lying there would be a problem until i make a hole for it, right?

I think when I've seen aftermarket intake elbows you usually have to make your own hole like you are thinking.

I think that's how you do it. Don't know for sure, I went with a 1LE. And it's not good to leave that line disconnected. It's a vacuum line, it uses intake vacuum to suck atmosphere out of the opti, it doesn't just vent on its own.

u have to drill the hole yourself

Pack of 4 grommets is less than $1.00 at hardware store. Just find the one that your vaccum nipple fits into and drill to the appropriate size.

Yeah you have to drill it out. I made my whole under the elbow so the nasty vent hose is hidden :)

I would suggest moving it to the top or at least the side of the intake. It is placed at a downright position so that if any moisture collects it will not be sucked down the vacuum line. If it is on the bottom moisture can collect at the nipple and be the first thing the opti sees upon startup.

Same reason for having 02 sensors at a downright position as well, as cramped as it can be in some cars.

I ran mine into the side of the intake manifold.

when i added a trick flow 2 summers ago i used an oven meat thermometer (it had a nice point at the end of it) to poke a hole into the silicon tube that went between the intake elbow and the MAF. i made it just large enough so that i had to force the blue opti vent elbow piece into it. the kit came with a grommet and instructions for drilling into the elbow but i asked around and everyone said that as long as it was between the MAF and TB it was fine anywhere along there. here's a pic from how mine looked before i swapped it out for Ram Air. i had a small rip in my elbow which caused me to fail emissions. had i known i was going to end up going to the R/A setup i would have just left the elbow taped on the underside like the shop had made it. i ended up selling my whole stock intake anf getting most of what i paid for the elbow back though. sorry its not the greatest pic, it was taken with a cell phone. it's kind of hard to see but you can kind of make out the blue elbow piece close to the MAF

here's a better pic of the elbow after i had removed it from the car. you can see the hole i created in the tube a little better.

it's amazing how much my engine has changed in the last year, lol (i got the ram air done in early march 2008 and the intake manifold painted in june when the gasket was changed)

I have a 1LE for 95-97 fbodys on my car, so it has a factory-like hole for the opti vent.

I'm very anal when it comes to my car so I wouldn't have done the elbow (unless your stock one was leaking) until I had time to drill out the hole and do the opti as well, but you're probably fine. Just make sure to finish it up when you get a chance.

you can do what i did and it will be just as tight as if it was in the elbow. it was in there really tight and was kind of hard to install/remove the hose
