Anything with b/t 200-500 watts rms, it depends if you are running a ported or sealed box as to how much power you really want to give it. I would say at least 300 watts rms reguardless.

You might as well buy a nice D class 1000w. So if you were to upgrade your stereo later, you would still have plenty of power to push more equipment.

Ive never understood why people buy the bare minimum. Buying amps/stereo is like buying injectors. You can always turn down a set of injectors, so why start with some 19/hr little guys?

ok when looking at amps and subs, look at rms watts not peak or total watts. Type R are good for 500 rms watts and even more, so you want an amp that puts out around 500 rms watts if you want to push it properlly. You can hook it up to a less powerful amp however, but it wont sound as good or as loud. Now impedance/ohms comes into play. If you get a dual 2 ohm sub you want an amp that does 500 rms watts at 1ohm. If your getting a dual 4ohm sub then you want an amp that does 500 rms watts at 2ohms. the final impedance depends how you wire it.

Most people buy bare minimum because of the price, but I agree with you expandability is nice, thats why I said at least 300 rms.

Here's a 600 watt amp that would work for your sub.Not sure how much you want to spend...

that amp will work for the type R alpine?

yes it will, edesigns is a good company aswell. Its more power than you need tho. That amp will do 1100 at 1 ohm, you can just turn down the gain but its still overkill. There are cheaper options, just depends on how much you want to spend. The amp that was posted on the bottom of the first page does 600 at 1ohm which is perfect for you and is a very good brand.

I am running 2 Alpine Type-R dual 4 ohm and 2 MRD-M500 amps running a 2 ohm load at 500 watts rms. The Verification Certifcates say that my amps are running about 600 rms:D

i have two 12" Eclipse Comps and each one is being pushed by its own Alpine V12 (D class 1300w RMS benched at a Audio supply company). the subs are only 650w RMS but you never really want to push an amp over 75% or you will drastically decrees the life span of it.

also when looking for an amp look at the feusing on it, if it says its a 1000w and only has two 20a feuses move on and dont waist yout money! a true 1000w should have ~80a's of feuses. i also highley susgest a Class D mono sub amp. as for a susgestion i would say Alpine or JL but Audiobahn also makes a decent amp.
