I'm about to buy a set of Pacesetter LTs my question is should i go with the y-pipe and then some type of catback system or true duels and a x-pipe? Mostly I'm shooting for price, i just don't want more exhaust than i need. The build is:
355
forged rods, pistons
CC503 cam
lightly ported heads
1.6rr
58mm TB
A4 with 3000 stall
and a 100-150 shot in the future
Will i be fine with a y-pipe and cat back or will i be limiting myself with the set up i have?
thanks

true duals would work great for that setup but y pipe and catback would probably be cheaper

I called around town and its $800 or more to get true duels done. The guy said they "have" to put on cats for the visual inspection. How do i get around this? I don't want to pay for high priced cats to gut them, there is no snif test. I'm pretty good at DIY, is there a system i can order and install myself and put some BS cats on and still be 3" Y or true duals and save some $? Whats the trick?

Texas Speed makes a true dual kit for ls1 cars and works on our with a little modification, but im not sure of the extent of it.
A lot of guys just buy an x pipe from summit and put mufflers on the end and dump it.
Some guy on here had a fake cat that you can buy that looks real but it a just a 3 inch pipe going through the middle.

if you plan on lowering the car, go with a y pipe setup unless you're going to take the true duals all the way out the back... turndowns take out a lot of ground clearance. 2.5" should be sufficient, but 3" wouldn't be overkill i don't think for your setup.

Wow $800? You would be getting ripped off for that. . Go somewhere else. A 2.5" true dual setup will flow 513hp without any loss, so that should be plenty. Buy a jegs/summit xpipe kit for like 80 bux, get a cpl 2.5" summit bullits for $20 bux appiece and turn downs before the axel. It's very little actual piping they have to run to do this. My last car I had true duals done for $150.

I would say true duals, because us gear heads are never satisfied, so eventually you are going to make the car need a big true dual system, so why not just get it now instead of getting a y pipe system now, and then pay again later for a true dual system.
thats what I plan on doing

here in this part of TX we are required to have cats on for the saftey inspection, its just a visual check. So if i piece it together like Blkdragon suggested, i'll have to come up with some type of real or non-funtioning cat, thats the problem I'm at now. There are several places for exhaust pieces i can put together but they all dump before the axle, is there someplace i can find the "over the axle" piece, i can put on myself?

I was looking at an over the axle set up too.
I want it too be real nice and clean, there was a setup that kooks did for this guy with an LS1 TA, check it out

are those bullets about 3/4 down just before the axle, and turbos after? that looks nice, probibly sounds deep and solid!! My problem is i guess everything I'm wanting is a custom setup, but only have the cash for...well not much

i run longtubes, 3in offroad y, hooker catback, and a cutout. the car feels faster on the y-pipe setup than the old 3in x and bullets i had before even with my heads and cam

Yea I am in the same boat to man. Seems like just after I graduated the job market went kaboom.
I am too busy patching all my stuff to worry about the want list right now though.
Yea I want that set up too, but with out the first set of mufflers, only the ones out back

If it's just a visual inspection you could put a couple gutted cats before the mufflers. My last true dual setup I ran the pipes over the axel without any problems.

its not nessecarly about routing, I want them over my axle, its getting them there. I can't find a bolt up system, don't have acess to a welder, and won't pay for a custom install over the axle. Currently working on the welder part, maybe figure how to do it myself.

Dude summit sells mandrel bent piping, If I was you, I would carefully lay out what you are going to need, then order the raw materials and get your welder person to fab it up for you, the good thing about it being a buddy welding, is you can tell him to tuck it up there nice and tight so you dont have ground clearance issues

That's a good way to go, I'm going to look around and see how much i can piece together an exhaust sytem, and weld it up myself or bolt it together. Thanks man,
